Small before big, for heaven's sake

One philosophy by the name Epictetus made a profound quote, it's not exactly the most popular of quotes from this philosopher but it's one of the deepest for me.

The Quote

"Practice yourself, for heaven’s sake, in little things; and thence proceed to greater."

You could read it and say well that's basic but it's the issue with so many people that can't get to the elite or stardom levels in whatever they do or whatever industry they're in.

If you've got any skill you want to learn, there's a chance you already know or look up to people that are really great at it. You admire those great people that have had years and years of experience and practice in that field and you suddenly want to jump to their level.

Attempting that is more like trying to put a high skyscraper on the ground without foundations, it's bound to fall the minute you let go.

The philosophy using the "heaven's sake" phrase made me laugh because I could feel just how fraustrated he was, watching so many rookies try to pick up higher tasks when they're not too good with the basics yet.

You shouldn't ever rush any training section or task. If you're no good with the little, the harder ones will just end up disgracing you. You want to handle millions of dollars? Start with tens of dollars and if all that little money could slip away from your hands, the millions will too.

If you want to handle a romantic relationship, start with your sibling at home, it's easier trust me.

We must live life not with a sense of entitlement but working our way to deserve and earn the big things we want. It's possible for anyone to achieve greatness but first achieve a successful daily routine that is tied to your discipline. Your commitment to the little things will usher you to th great things.

It's no wonder most lottery winners and gamblers lose in the end. They jumped to the big leagues without first becoming masters of the little Leagues.

Speaking of leagues, no coach is dumb enough to put a young footballer starting out in a match against Ronaldo, but Ronaldo was once that little boy.

Practice and practice until the level you're at becomes second nature to you then proceed to the next level.
