The Great Affordability Debate, are we being misled?
Trump has his way with words and people will believe what they want to believe even if reality is staring right at their face. You say you're going to fix inflation in a campaign and when you're elected, a lot of what is done is blaming the previous government for inflation. I'm not saying he's right or wrong.
All I've heard repeatedly is about how everything is too expensive and it's obvious, isn't it? Not just for America because this is a global crisis, but if you ask why, it gets more complicated really fast.
The previous guys in office which is the Democrats get the blame from Trump and his crew for their excess spending, careless printing of money and wrong regulations that all Americans pay for now when they go food shopping and I would say it sounds pretty cut and dry when they say it. But there's a flip side to this too. The entire supply chain screwed up after we all went through the COVID seasons, we also know that wars increased the cost of fuel too, and then companies just decided to charge a lot for stuff even though they were able to. So which side is right or is it a little of both?
Politicians just need a source of blame to make things easier for them to run the government. The affordability crisis becomes this story of $1 vs. $1. You are either the hero or the villain. The economic forces are very boring to the government, and they don't have any control over them.
I'm not saying that either storyline is misleading, but I don't think we are getting the whole story from anyone. If someone says, here's the super simple reason why this is happening, you probably should be suspicious about it.
The part of this issue that I laugh at whenever I see it happening is the level of confidence with which politicians speak with regards to this issue. They sound when they talk. Like they know exactly what happened to cause all of this insanity and how to fix it just as easily, and that confidence looks almost like they have just rehearsed it all.
