The Lion King, the past can hurt

Guess what I watched last night right before I went to bed, Lion King. I can't forget a line that Rafiki says about the past,
"The past can hurt. But the way I see it, you can either run from it, or learn from it."
It's funny how a line from a cartoon monkey can be so deep and this morning I remembered that, was inspired by that and it's been a great day so far.
As a child I didn't care about those quotes. I just wanted the songs, the jokes, Timon and Pumbaa. Now, years later, the line got to me in a different kind of way. Every time I fumble, that voice comes back, like an annoying reminder but it's a good thing. P
People keep saying the same thing again and again. I have listened and agreed with their words, then I have done the same stupid thing five minutes later. It is easier to skip the difficult part, to pretend that nothing has happened and to continue with the same habits. It even feels stupid with me saying it out loud or writing it.
It feels normal while doing it. Learning from the past doesn't solve all the problems. The past still hurts, the minute it comes into memory, because you're a human being your emotions will also come out. I still unnecessarily replay my awful middle school lines at midnight. I regret when I recall the things I said at a party years ago.
A person's memory does keep receipts.
The only choice left is to use those receipts for small changes towards the right direction. If you hurt someone else, apologize quicker.
If you know it's a wrong thing you're about to agree on, learn to say no sooner. Try not to beat yourself up too much, you're only human.
Growth comes from little changes rather than an overnight new person thing. Those motivational speakers that are hardcore on YouTube telling you that you can get better overnight and they know how to make you get better that quickly just want to to watch their YouTube videos.
True change will take time and you will fail a lot before you finally get it good.
Perhaps the next time you can try one brave decision, something you feared. Don't just apologize to people, apologize to yourself as well. Self love and self care is also a very important thing.
Funny how some cartoons give you better life lessons than grownups ever can. Adults are good at giving you rules and lectures. Cartoons have a nice way of sneaking the truth or reality inside a little scene. The Truth of life will always be revealed and your wisdom of it will be tested.
I would say that Rafiki was right about this one.
