$1.58 an Hour for Garment Workers, Miserable Treatment

source

Reading a lot of news around the world and I just have to say, it's terrible what goes on out there in terms of work life, by that i mean how people are treated at work.

It's obvious, workers are not valued as they should be, it's the system and regardless of how many blogs I choose to write the real change will start only when those with the power decide to.

From the Los Angeles daily news, this is so messed up

This is a screenshot from the same website so claiming it as not my own

Before I share the news I'll just have to describe exactly what a Sweatshop is just in case you're not familiar with the term. Sweatshops are places where people work long hours in terrible conditions for next to nothing. Most of the workstations are cramped, unsafe rooms and workers get almost no breaks.

To make the matter even worse, bosses cheat workers out of fair pay. It's a tiring job and if the pay was good well then people would at least be motivated but it's totally BS.

You might think this kind of situation only happens in far off countries.and respectfully term the as third world nations but a March 2023 report exposed that garment workers in Southern California, right in the US are being paid as little as $1.58 an hour. I think I'd rather just write articles on Hive or maybe try my luck with YouTube than to have this job.

If you’re sick of the grind and the lie that hard work pays off, this is exactly the main reason why we need to fight back against this broken system.

There was a report, covered by Scott Schwebke in the Daily News that highlighted a major hub for garment manufacturing in Los Angeles. You probably would guess that most of the workers are immigrants and they're practically stuck in jobs sewing clothes for big brands earning wages so low they can’t survive. How could you even survive $1.58 an hour and to think these companies make millions and billions.

Per the reports, it's way below California’s minimum wage of $15.50 in 2023.

Not only is the work stressful and pay almost an insult, but the workers also face dangerous conditions, like poorly lit factories or very unsafe machinery, stuff that could cause injury if you make the least mistake.

Sadly many don’t know their rights or speak enough English to fight back against such an unfair treatment.

So what do we end up with? Bosses taking advantage, knowing these workers are desperate for any job so they can survive on a foreign land.

This situation isn’t just about a few bad factories mistreating people but the entire system is rotten. The big clothing brands profit while workers suffer in sweatshops, stitching the clothes we buy every day.

Some of these companies dodge responsibility by outssurcing to shady contractors who also exploit workers. It’s the same story across the US, low wages, long hours and no respect for human rights.

The immigrants get hit hardest, but it’s all of us trapped in a system where work means misery and CEOs get rich.

The system has been set that way before most of us were born, slaves work harder an masters earn the most. I don't intend to make this a rant blog but I'm trying to think aloud and figure out how we can put an end to this.

With $15 as the minimum wage and workers being paid not even a third of that amount is so disheartening.
