When They Notice

There are somethings we keep doing on a regular basis and the thing with human nature is that people tend to only notice those regular little things you keep doing only when you stop doing them. We get used to things when it becomes regular.
A wise person once said, you never truly know the value of a thing until you lose it.
I got used keeping kept the house tidy, I would pack lunches, send the weekly note at work, do the dishes and work that is not even my responsibility. Nobody said thanks for all of that. But last week I skipped the note and the cleaning because I was caught up with so many things. Suddenly the entire house was upside down, a complete mess and everyone was complaining.
The little acts people don't appreciate much which you do on a daily basis is so valuable but they don't acknowledge that value everyday. Everything goes well because you keep doing them.
That one day you decide not to cook is when they'll realize how important your cooking was.
A missing meal makes hunger more obvious.
Most of those things don't look like big things, but they break everyone's plans when you stop them, yet you won't be appreciated until you skip a day of doing it.
Why this happens is that slow, steady effort builds trust and dependency but it also makes people lose sight of value of it happens all the time.
The moment you stop doing that little thing they don't seem to regard, extra work appears for them, more stress for them and they get less time for good things.
I remember my first job. I filled a spreadsheet every Friday. It took twenty minutes to do that work but it was not the main work so nobody saw that part as valuable. Then one Friday I was sick. My boss asked where the file was, the entire office work came to a halt because that "seemingly" valueless spreadsheet work wasn't done for just one day.
Regardless of how little a work is, it is deserving of appreciation. People will notice when things stop. Better to show them first.
Oh, and I forgot to mention the plant. It's dead. Sorry boss.
