While that was happening to Charlie Kirk, this was happening to some kids at Evergreen High School, Colorado

While I was doing a little scrolling through my Tumblr feed, I came across this post, and ever since the unfortunate assassination of Charlie Kirk, the minute I see a post with his name on it, it gets my attention. But this particular post deserved more than my attention, I had to share a little perspective on it.

At around the same time the assassination of Charlie Kirk was taking place, kids of Evergreen High School in Colorado were in critical condition after a school shooting. It's been covered by a few news sites but definitely would have gained more recognition if it had happened another time.

What happened to Charlie Kirk was nothing shot of devasting, regardless of your view or opinions of the guy, he's a human being with a family. Some may think of him as highly controversial but he has loved ones who have been deeply hurt by the turn of events.

However, my spotlight is on these kids who have gone through a traumatizing experience the very same day. My heart also goes out to the families of the kids.

Well it does show us how news Media works and how people usually react to tragedy. But at least I've contributed to creating more awareness about what happened to these kids on the same day.

A little detail on the story. At Evergreen High School, a 16 year old student shot two other students. Both students that got shot were badly injured and taken to the hospital. The shooter then committed suicide.

Following an investigation from the police department, the findings was that the boy had been radicalized by an extremist network online, meaning he got influenced by a dangerous group to do this.

The family of the victims are not only troubled but in shock with the community trying to figure out how something like this can happen at school. Of course, this is not the first time a school shooting has happened anyways.

What a tragic news right? But it happened at the same time Charlie Kirk got shot while speaking at Utah Valley University. He was hit in the neck and later died in the hospital. It's pretty obvious that because Charlie Kirk was a very public figure, his shooting made headlines all over the country and even the world.

We've got the FBI involved, a huge investigation is happening, and people across political lines reacting.

Now get this, both events happened on the same day, within few hours of each other. The school shooting got way less attention and infact lesser than usual because of when it happened. I'm not ignorant of the obvious fact that it's not because kids’ lives matter less. It is because the media often focuses on famous people first.

At least I haven't gotten the news that the kids are dead so that's better than the Charlie Kirk case. However they're still fighting for their lives. It's really quite unfortunate

The real point I want to make is that gun violence is still a huge problem in America. A high school is not safe. A college event is not safe.

Whether you're a kid, an activist, a teacher or even a well known speaker with a security team, you're not a hundred percent safe.

I know some might say it's not about right to own a gun but about who has the gun. Think about it, in these two tragic events, if the people didn't have access to guns, there's a higher chance Charlie Kirk would still be alive and the two kids would not have been injured to that degree.
