A PURSIUT OF THE PERFECT CHILD

If given the opportunity, or if it were possible for a person as a parent to choose and select the traits, character, talents, and genes they want their baby to have, I am sure no one would object to that. Everyone wants a healthy child that is perfect, a baby that will be admired and loved by everyone, a baby that everyone will love to hold. Having the ability to choose your child’s complexion, the shape of your child’s head, the look of their teeth, their height, and their health status will be something every person would like to have a part in deciding for their baby.

There is no parent who would like to have a child with any defect. Every parent wants to have a perfect child; by "perfect" I mean healthy babies. You can see how parents who have children with such defects find it so difficult and challenging taking care of their children. A child who was born deaf may be difficult to train by parents who have no experience with training a deaf child; the same also goes for children with other difficulties.
A parent who has a child that suffers from cerebral palsy or a sickness like dyspraxia, having had the experience of raising a kid with these defects, will wish everyday they were given the chance or an opportunity to choose the traits of their kids. For those who don’t know what cerebral palsy or dyspraxia is: cerebral palsy is a brain condition that affects body movement and muscle coordination, while dyspraxia is also a condition that makes it difficult for children to coordinate their movement, making daily tasks difficult. A parent who has a child with this condition will gladly choose the traits and genes that they would love to pass to their kids.

Additionally, an artist or a sportsman, for instance, would love it if his kid is as talented as he is. A sportsman like Cristiano Ronaldo, who has his kid Cristiano Ronaldo Jr. and many others taking the same career path as their fathers, these parents, if given the opportunity, will gladly accept that responsibility of making these decisions. They will want to have a child who is as talented as themselves or even with greater grace than themselves. Using Cristiano Ronaldo and his son for example, for those who follow them will agree with me that Cristiano Ronaldo wants his child to be like him or even better than him on the football pitch, and if it were possible for him to make a perfect baby, he would gladly make a perfect future star.
It won’t be a bad idea completely for prospective parents to have an opportunity to modify the genes of their babies before they are born. It will surely be an improvement which will result in less suffering in the long run for both the parents and babies. This might not be ethically right to many, but it will surely be a great thing.
