A QUEST FOR SURVIVAL
Every businessman ventures into business with the sole aim of profit maximization. A businessman doesn’t venture into business with thoughts of ethics but only how to maximize profit by any means necessary.
Recently, a friend of mine who was looking for a job came across a woman employer who needed a sales rep for her cosmetic shop and her pharmacy. My friend who was in the health line applied to be her sales person for the pharmacy and was called for an interview but as soon as the business owner came in contact with her, she wanted her to work in her cosmetics shop and no longer the pharmacy, according to her, my friend was fair in complexion and she will want her to use some of her products so she could become fairer which will be a form of free advertisement to her products and will not be compensated for. She also had her complaints about how my friend was dressed up all covered, without exposing any part of her body, and also covering her hair. She had instructed her not to come dressed like that if she was going to work for her; she wanted her to dress all attractive and revealing.
This lady, if asked, only wants what’s best for her business; she has seen an opportunity and wants to exploit it by any means necessary. She wants to take advantage of an innocent lady’s desperation, whose intention is only is seek a deceitful way to earn a living.
The quest in building a successful business may result in individuals and business owners engaging in all sorts of unethical activities to see that they succeed in their course of business. Some online merchants have also engaged in selling their bodies in addition to the goods and items they sell, all in the name of success. These are only a few examples of what happens in owning a business.
My experience with owing a business I will, has made me to believe that most businesses only get what keeps them afloat and are not making profit, it is difficult to make profit from businesses in this part of the world I live in, you find out that the environment and the rules governing the society and business activities will not allow you to run your business conveniently and, in the end, you either close down or just keep struggling to keep the business open.
In a situation like this, a lot of business owners do not value ethics over profit and with any little opportunity they see that will enable them to make a profit from their business, they happily jump right into it without any thought of ethics or morals. The world is a get rich or die trying kind of situation, and only the fittest survive in this world. Everyone is trying to survive or trying to be richer than the next person or neighbor. We all do what we have to do to get what we want.
