ATM Technical Support: When problems are solved and opportunities for new experiences arise.

In this era of blockchain and decentralized technology, we constantly talk about digital transactions. But the hardware and technical labor involved behind this digital money often remains hidden. Today I will share with you one such challenging experience from my professional life.

I am a mechanical engineer by profession and currently working as an ATM Technical Support Engineer in a company. Recently, the EPP (Encrypting PIN Pad) of one of our ATM machines got damaged. Those of you who use ATMs know that the EPP is the part where we enter the PIN code. It is a very sensitive device because it is directly involved in the encryption or confidentiality of customer data.

When the new EPP came to my hands after requisitioning it in the office, I saw that it was slightly different from the previous model. In the technical field, many times one has to face a situation where exactly the same parts are not available. As an engineer, I have to test my present intelligence and skills.

I very carefully set the hardware configuration and connections of the new EPP in their original places. After the hardware installation, the next step was the software configuration. Matching the new hardware with each machine is a quite complicated process, because a slight mistake can make the entire system useless. After successfully completing the software setup, the most important step was to input the Master Key. This is basically the final step to establish a secure connection between the ATM and the banking server.

Many may ask, what is the relationship between blockchain and hardware repair? In fact, just as blockchain is based on transparency and security, this encryption system of ATMs is also dependent on security. As a technical support engineer, when we work with these devices, we actually ensure that physical layer of security.

The life of an engineer means solving new problems every day. The satisfaction that comes after successfully completing this task is difficult to express in words. It is truly an honor to be a part of the process when technology makes people's lives easier.
