The Silent Guardian of Our Roof: Lightning Arrester.

Greetings to everyone. I hope everyone is well and healthy. Today I will talk to you about a very important, yet neglected technology used in the protection of our daily lives.

This afternoon, while tending to the roof garden, I suddenly looked up at the sky above my head. Against the backdrop of a cloudy sky, I looked at this special iron rod standing at the very corner of our roof (the photo of which I have added to the post). Many of you may have seen it on the roofs of various multi-storey buildings. It is called a lightning arrester in the language of science and engineering or a lightning rod in common language.

Many may think of it as an ordinary iron cage or rod, but its role in the protection of buildings is immense. Especially in our country, when heavy clouds gather and lightning strikes frequently, this small device protects our lives and property.

In simple words, it is an electrical protective shield. We know that during a lightning strike, millions of volts of electricity from the clouds try to descend to the ground. Since electricity always seeks the easiest and least resistant path, tall buildings become easy targets for lightning.

This lightning rod on my roof has a few fine spikes or thorns on its head. When lightning flashes in the sky or a lightning strike occurs, this rod attracts that huge amount of lightning towards itself. Then, through a thick copper wire or conductor connected to this rod, that dangerous electricity goes directly deep into the ground without causing any damage (which we call earthing). As a result, there is no damage to the main building or any electrical equipment inside.

It is surprising to think how many wonderful solutions science has given us to save ourselves from this evil form of nature. If it were not for this silent guard on the roof, any major lightning strike could have caused serious damage to the building, and even a major accident could have occurred.

Have you noticed such lightning rods in your own or nearby buildings? Be sure to share your thoughts on this wonderful use of technology in the comments.

Thank you all.

This was my arrangement for today. I hope you liked the pictures I took and the nature observations. Wishing everyone good health, I bid you farewell here today.
