Splinterlands Community Engagement Challenge - Magic monsters rule the game

Hello all Splinters,

This is my entry for the Splinterlands Community Engagement Challenge 👍. This week's theme is Power Plays – Your Favorite Card Combos, where you can share the card combinations, unstoppable synergies, and game-changing tactics that help you dominate the battlefield.

In the new Modern format, I always see the magic monsters play a crucial role in winning the game. That's why I invest mainly in Magic Monsters in this post

I will share with you 2 battles with magic monsters, and they helped me to win against 2 stronger opponents

This is the 1st battle with the following rulesets

  • 17 mana cap - a low mana battle

  • Even Stevens - Only monster with even mana cost can be used in the battle, and Deflection Shield - monsters do not get any counter damage.

  • Only Light Splinter can be used in this battle

With these rulesets, I don't have so many choices. I needed to choose a low-mana summoner and monsters to have more cards on the battlefield. It could increase my winning chances. That led me to the team lineup below.

Summoner

Chuul JuJinchi - he only costs 3 mana, lowest cost for a summoner and it helped me to spend more mana on monsters

1st position

Nimbledook Explorer - he can give 2 additional armors to all monsters, which is very helpful

2nd position

Moxian Rebel - I chose him because of Weapon training skill, which can give 1 magic attack to the 1st and 3rd position monsters at this level

3rd position

Conclave Artificer - he costs 4 mana and has 5 HP. There is no monster better than him in this position for this battle

With this lineup, I only used 15 mana, but I didn't have any 2-mana monster to use up all the mana in this battle.

My opponent chose level 4 - Bella Ratajowlski as the summoner. It seemed Even Stevens is a challenging ruleset in this battle. It limited the options, and my opponent could put 2 monsters on the battlefield. Both of them are higher-level than mine.

Halfshell Seer couldn't cause any damage to my team. Only an 8-mana monster - Conclave Tracker did 1 magic attack each round, while all 3 of my monsters could attack. However, Conclave Tracker has higher speed and made the 1st attack to kill my Moxian Rebel. It made the battle tougher, and I had a very close win after 6 rounds.

And here is the 2nd battle with the following rulesets

  • 34 mana cap

  • Wands Out - Only Magic monsters can be used in this battle and Heavy Hitters - attackers can give double damage to stun targeted monsters

  • Earth and Death Splinters can not be used in this battle

Here is my team lineup

Summoner

Prunda Undervesch - I want to use both Life and Water Splinter in this battle because I have strong magic monsters in both splinters

1st position

Janni Rebel - I chose her because she has the highest HP among my magic monsters. So she is suitable to be a tanker in this battle

2nd position

Olivia of the Brook - she has 2 types of attacks and can get 1 additional melee attack from Janni Rebel skill

3rd position

Thanalorian Archer

4th position

Meriput Magician - I need this monster because of Tank Heal skill

5th position

Shock Trooper - a very high magic attack monster, and I see him a lot in the Modern format battles

My opponent chose level 7 Dolfar Darflak as the summoner. She (based on the avatar) also put higher-level monsters on the battlefield.

Even though my opponent put stronger summoner and monsters on the ground, my team won her team after 3 rounds.

Both battles showed the possibility that you can still win against the stronger opponents if you choose the right strategy.

I hope you enjoy these battles, find some useful information in this post.

Have a nice weekend!
