The day Janie injured her knee, she was left without her perfect rectangular world, and it made her quite upset. It was as if she had lost her sight, groping in the dark for something to hold on to. Moreover, moving around on crutches made her feel weak and helpless. Mulling it over as she lay on the couch, she realized that tennis wasn't enough; to face life with its complexities, one had to be ready to adapt and change according to circumstances.

Il giorno che Janie si infortunò il ginocchio rimase senza il suo rettangolare mondo perfetto e la cosa la scombussolò alquanto. Era come se avesse perso la vista, brancolava nel buio in cerca di qualcosa a cui aggrapparsi. Inoltre muoversi con le stampelle la faceva sentire debole ed indifesa. Rimuginando stesa sul divano capì che non bastava il tennis, per affrontare la vita con le sue complessità bisognava essere pronti ad adattarsi e cambiare a seconda delle circostanze.
