Stick Up Boys go to the cricket at the Oval London....

Introduction

There are quite a few of us boys and two of us are very fond of cricket! SO not for the first time two of us took outselves out for a day at a test match. The last time we went we both agree that it was one of the best days of our lives when we got to see England win the series against India!

This time we were going to see the last test of South Africa's tour of the UK and it was equally pised at 1-1. What was even more exciting was that even though it was the second day there could be a result!

The venue

We were at the wonderful Oval Cricket ground in South London, somewhere we have been many times!

The game

It was maybe the worse morning for us as they took our last 3 wickets in 3 overs and then proceeded to bat very well on a very good pitch for bowling. It was a relief to reach lunch.

However lunch means err drinks could start and while it being a wildly expensive day out, we dont care when we are at the cricket! So we started off with some Italian Blood Orange Spritz and went on to have many more things off the cocktail menu as the day went on!

Now the afternoon was glorious, the sun came out and the game changed, we took 9 wickets in the the next few hours as we bowled SA out. We then had a few hours to win the game and score 130 runs!

They came out slogging at the ball and it was looking more and more likely that we could win on the day! This would have been most exceelnt of finishes to a great day. However at around 6.30 the umpires in all their wisdom took the teams off for bad light. Meaning they had to go back for 23min the day after and robbed us of seeing a glorious victory.

All in all though it was a most excellent day out and even better to see England (nearly win) a test series against the best team in the world. During the day we discussed how we might go and follow them on tour to say err Barbados...or the West Indies.....and whether or not on such an occasion we would have to take our families....

Sounds like a great day, they are some insanely low totals I must say. The wicket must have been in appalling condition.

I am not sure it was, usually the Oval is a batters pitch! I think there was just some woefully bad batting and a bit of swing from the clouds. I think it broke a few oval records for lowest scoring and shortest innnings somewhere !PIZZA

Or good bowling.

I'll have a look at the report.

I've got to say I prefer a test match or even county to this new fast-form bastardisation.

Test is the best, I mean what other sport can you sit and watch for 5 days while chilling....
