Happy New Year, In Spite of Everything!!!

And it seems like we've (almost) made it through another year. For me it was not really that bad, considering. The beginning of it I spent in Mazunte, working on our theater construction. Then my little sister got married in a very alternative wedding, right here in Mexico. For the last three quarters of the year I was again in Mexico City, doing what I would have done anyway, with or without Covid: Social Isolation. Unlike the previous year, my fellow Mexicans were out and about like normal. Sure, half of them are masked up, but not the other half! And during the last few months we conducted this crowdfunding campaign for Itínera Theater, with moderate results. So in a way, I have no reason to be pessimistic about the new year, even though that seems to be the general trend...

2022 ... Will That Be Like 2020 Too?

If you do a search on 2022 meme you will be flooded with ironic, tongue-in-cheek pessimism (or outright blatant ones). Like the Joker showing the IT clown the ropes? Yeah, bring in the new horror! Or how about those wondering why no one says things like "2022 is gonna be my year!" Because they're scared, right? Well... is that really so? I mean, we all remember what the general mood was like only two years ago. That's when Australia was burning, Trump was still trumping, and a war with Iran was looming on the horizon. Nobody could foresee Covid (except for those reptilians preparing it), but the general mood was just as screwed up as it is today. And I remember how back then I could care just as little as now.

No Resolutions, Just Amazing Plans!

I had my mind set on a few things, which all worked out beautifully. Starting out the year with a fast, then do some phenomenal work on the theater building, and eventually spend the Summer in the California desert filming epic things. The beach holiday with my wife, and the 4000 km road trip across the Southwestern US were additional developments, all realized in spite of the Covid craze. So if you ask me, I really would not mind having another year like 2020. Or 2021 for that matter, even though this year has been somewhat slower in terms of natural building or legendary journeys. On the upside, I got to spend more time with my wife and my dog, who's getting really old now.

But let me see... What amazing things is this next year going to bring? First of all, I really would like to do some work in Mazunte again. That floor needs to be finished, and otherwise... we'll see. Some flexi-yurts for volunteers, a palapa roof for the kitchen maybe? It would be great to put the door and windows in, so we could close the building, but we'll see what the consensus decision is.

Over Spring (March would be ideal, but I don't mind going in May either) I would like to return to California, and continue on the Stone Dragon property. The gods know, there is plenty to be cleaned up still, plus we would like to hook up the well pump with a photovoltaic system (while we still have money to spend). Though the challenge there is entering the US without being vaccinated. From what I've heard it's possible, but I may have to choose my point of entry well. Flying into Tijuana and crossing in Tecate seems to be the best option, but in case that doesn't work, I'm willing to journey all the way to Texas, and back. Though we never know... Maybe by that time every vaxxed person will have come down with Omicron, while seeing their economy in the gutters, so this whole insanity will be abandoned by the masses. Hahaha, how is this for optimism?

So for all of you out there reading this, let me try to make you feel good about the next year! It won't be perfect. Most likely it's going to be full of adversities. Oh, and lots of things won't feel pleasant. (Though I guess that's part of the experience when we are facing the kind of problems we're facing today...) However, we're moving forward, no matter what. So we may as well embrace the change, and make the best of it. Because we are alive! So if nothing else, I hope that this coming year is going to show us that, so we may appreciate it to the fullest. Best wishes to all of you!
