Art Attack #229: Richy Rich MonopolyCat 🤑

Hey Hive!

We're back again with another Art Attack! If you're new to the series, this is where I share my drawings and the process behind them. A behind-the-scenes look at my artwork, if you will. This is not to say that I'm very good at art, or that I'm a professional in any way. In fact this is the opposite, and serves as a reminder to how I first started, and lets me track my progress too!

I've shared about my streaming journey on Twitch and the art I've done for my Twitch channel and this time, it's bit tier emotes! Viewers can show their support to streamers by giving them bits, aka cheering, and one bit is one cent. So once you reach a certain amount of bits contributed to a channel you unlock bit tier emotes in that channel.

Here are some older bit emotes I did that were really rough, and in dire need of an upgrade. I did these when I first started in 2021, and now that my art has improved I thought I'd just do an overhaul of all of them.

I wanted a common theme across the bit tier emotes and since you had to give money to get them, I thought making them all money-themed would be perfect.

This last one that I have unlocked on my channel can only be unlocked after a viewer has contributed 50K bits, which is a lot! I was running out of money-related memes that I knew were popular so I just decided to go with something more generic. The first character I could think of that was rich and recognisable was the Monopoly Man. Since I already had a costume for it I thought it'd be perfect.

I wanted my Monopoly-TacoCat to be holding a bag of money too, and I found a reference for it! This was pretty much what I wanted, with the top hat and monocle too. Here's my sketch:

After I sketched it out I thought it looked a little plain compared to the previous ones I did. So to add to the same Monopoly theme, I thought of drawing in houses or hotels in the background.

I thought it looked alright, so it's time to go do the line art! I already had a Monopoly hat, moustache and monocle done so I just had to rearrange it a little.

Then I drew in the money bag, making sure it's quite prominent.

I was a little stumped on the buildings in the back and couldn't get it to look right. But then I remembered I had some building brushes so I tried that and thought they looked okay.

Anyway since the emote will be quite small they won't be that noticeable. After adding in some shadows and highlights, we finally get this:

I thought this looked pretty good! It's recognisable, flexes how much it cost and although it uses assets that I already had it is still all drawn by me anyway. I also didn't really bother putting too much effort into this one since I know it'll be a looong time until someone actually unlocks this emote. So technically no one but me will be using this. Here's what it looks like in chat:

So far I've only unlocked 5 bit tier emotes available on my channel so that's it for this emote showcase!

I think this showcase is miles better than the one I did previously, which is good since it's been about 3 years between them. I really loved how these turned out, and I'm glad my community does too.
My only concern is when I unlock the next one at 75K since I've already run out of ideas.. But maybe by then some other money memes would be out and I can reference those instead? Anyway that's a future problem so not to worry, for now.

Thanks so much for reading!
