Discovering A Fishing Zone In The Rural Huairou

As winter is coming to an end in the northern region of Beijing, where I am living, the temperature is now much warmer compared to January. The freezing cold is now gone, and the daytime temperature has jumped to over 10 degrees centigrade, making the weather more comfortable for any outdoor activity. Suddenly, I found the temperature crossing the 15-degree mark, and I took the opportunity to do some cycling in the northern section of the Huairou district, the vast open rural areas without any industries or residential villages. I visited the area last year, and now I am on the same road in the winter, and I found that every sight is completely different now than the summer and spring views.

This distant area is like an empty place without any people you can see except the traffic on roads, which is also very low in numbers in this region of the Beijing municipality. No one can imagine that such an empty area could be a part of such a big city with 30 million people living. But this emptiness is very good for my cycling session without much traffic noise, and the peaceful surrounding becomes more enjoyable there. After cycling more than 15 kilometers from my institute dorm, I found a smaller pond-like section of a river where I saw many people catching fish. I stopped there for a break and got down to the area to explore this rare fishing zone in the area.

At such a distance, I found the spot an interesting one, and it is located below a small culvert on my cycling route. The water level is very low as winter is dry here; actually, the river is completely dry, and the pond-like riverbed is like a deep part in the riverbed where the water level is still good, and so the blue-colored water looks so attractive in this dried region.

I get down to the bottom of the river to explore the fishing zone more closely. But unfortunately, I feel that the number of fish in the water is very low, as there was no movement of fish there, and I stayed there for more than half an hour and found no one caught any fish! But still those people were so attentive in their fishing activity during their spring festival holiday season.

I have also walked on the riverbed that is full of stones and a dried layer of the microorganisms that live on water, which is usually so slippery, but they are extremely dried and so now it seems to be just like dust. Also, I found there are some water trees and plants which are in the water half underwater and the rest are in the corner.

The overall area is completely neat and clean without any garbage, which used to be the situation in Bangladesh, and an extreme smell will kick you out of such a spot in Dhaka city. So, I enjoyed the fresh air and environment there under the bright sun. It was a pleasant experience.
