So, Alice tried to calm Tonye, urging him to keep his voice down but he got hostile and stormed out of the toilet.
Jostled, Alice returned to the sleeping chamber weeping. Alice stood by the windowing gazing into the dark clouds. She was deeply troubled, with a barrage of questions, but the frown on Tonye's face stayed her from opening a conversation. Tonye on his part was deep in thoughts but was too embarrassed to discuss his sudden discovery with his wife of hours. He had to put up a front to discourage a discussion so he could gather his thoughts. However, he realized that he had overreacted. So, he returned to the bedroom and walked behind her, and placed his hand on her shoulder, then with a cracking voice, he apologized.
Alice, a graduate of Public Health from Oxford University London, had just reported in Port Harcourt for the mandatory post-graduation national service. A relatively naïve young girl, most of what she knew of romance, she read from novels. Now she has to handle a major emotional issue she wasn’t equipped for.
