Recently, I had the opportunity to spend some time with a jackfruit vendor at a market, which also helped me appreciate the specialty of jackfruit more deeply.

Jackfruit Characteristics

Jackfruit is a fruit tree covered with large and tough dark green leaves. The jackfruit tree usually grows to a height of 10-20 meters. Its fruit can be about 60-110 cm long and its dark yellow or green peel is large, slippery and fragrant. The inside of the jackfruit is yellow, soft and sweet. The taste and smell of jackfruit are so attractive that it can impress anyone.

At the fair, I saw various types of sweet jackfruit—jackfruit sweets, payas, and malpoya. Some of its unique flavors floating in the aroma reminded me of the local way of thinking about jackfruit preservation and preparation.
