When Helping Hands Get Exploited | Fake Victims and Real Lessons

At things I do wonder why people do look down on themselves to the extent of turning into beggars just to make ends meet, not really talking about the ones that are disabled or handicapped but the fully fit individuals who thought finding a job or something legal to put food on the table is a bad idea. Sometimes I watch how the Hausa men hustle in Lagos, those people are united in their own way, some that do manual work will wake up early in the morning in groups, go to their main location and wait for people to pick them up for manual jobs, some will take a bike loan and remit the money gradually till they pay up and these men work from morning to night. One day, I decided to calculate what they might be making daily apart from fuel money and I almost decided to become a bike rider .

It is good to help people but some people just decided to take advantage of it without even knowing the kind of mood you are at that particular moment and it does baffles me what kind of humans these people are. I once remember when I had the first experience, a woman called me all of a sudden, I rarely picked new numbers but my spirit just decided to do so that day and all I could heard was a woman wailing on the phone and I had to calm down to know what she had to say and she started story about how she was once my mum customer and how things went bad etc but never mentioned where she got my number from and I decided to send her something but that was the worst mistakes ever, she called the following using same tactics and I stop picking up and when she noticed that, she started changing numbers to call till I had to remove my sim. Unknowingly to me, she was calling my sister with that same trick which she fell for a while. We all were at home one day with out mom and I brought up the matter which she confess to that the same woman have been disturbing her for money, I laughed and call her Mummy santa that day.

Now same thing happened in my area in Lagos, I was going somewhere and I had to stop at a vulcaniser's shop to pump my tires, two guys walk up to me, first introduce themselves as former cultist to scare me a little (those egbon adugbo) and was like they need help, his wife was in the hospital and he need help raising funds, they even try to show me pictures but I wave it off and had to send them the little I had that day for peace to reign, even the vulcaniser man asked if I knew them before and I said no and left. Unknowingly to me, these guys were lying and that was their normal hustle, lying and playing victim so people can help them.

Last week, I was in a bad mood due to some incident and I also brought something which stopped working within 30hours and the seller was acting up. So one my to get it fixed, I stopped somewhere to withdraw using pos and this same two guys walked up to me again, apparently they didn't recognise my face and were like when I withdraw finish, I should come they want to discuss something with me, I gave them one side look, withdraw and walk away yet they were following me, entered a tricycle and this two entered to, they were about to use the same statement when I asked them if they knew me before and they said no, I was like I have help them before with some amount of money and this time around I don't have any money to give anyone. This guys laugh and were like "so because you help us before that mean you can't help again, you are stingy o", even the maruwa man looked at me with shocking eyes, but when this guy saw I refuse to give them anything, they came down from the tricycle and walk away. Within me, I said oh this people have seen a mumu that they can play the same joke on, only God knows how many people fall for their trick daily since they are to comfortable with such acts.
