Ukraine is a Russian word meaning 'borderlands', IIRC. That is why it has traditionally been used in that way. I don't use the new pronouns either, because they're pushed for the same political reasons. Language isn't static, but it also isn't a political football, if we don't let it be.

I just notice that some folks use The Ukraine instead of Ukraine. Thats all. Nothing political about it.
A lot of folks are very political about language. I'm not. I'm glad you're not. I wish more weren't.
