Hahaha! Nice one!
One day, in the mid to late 90s, I went to a highschool birthday party.
The plan was to eat a lot of food and watch a movie.
The birthday girl had asked for "IT".
Her mom went to the VHS store ( good old 1990s )
and came back with E.T.
ET instead of IT.
Some of us had to laugh, but family Sci-Fi, instead of horror,
was a little disappointing,
as we were all about 16 years old :<)
Also, have some !PIZZA with your next movie.

Hahaha, thanks, man. I haven't even heard of ET. Poor girl. And poor 16 year olds. The older generation struck again.
What? You don't know Spielberg's E.T. ( The Extra Terrestrial). Okay it's almost as old as I ( 1982 ) but it's a movie classic. It played on T.V. almost every Christmas and I must have watched it 5 to 10 times in the 1990s ( and a handful of times, since then, including this year ).
I was born in 1998, bro 😂.
But then I've got the internet, so I have gone on to seek for and watch old movies and classics like The Godfather, etc. I like Spielberg, soon I'll watch this too for sure.
I knew you were young :^)
I myself am from 1981 but I have seen short films from 1895.
Yeah, you read that right, 127 years ago The very first film screenings took place that year. They were more like recordings of whatever took place in front of the camera ;^)
I don't consider a film from the 1980s old, perhaps one from the 1940s. Then again, I am a film snob and I studied ( a lot of old ) film(s). The 1970s is probably my favorite decade but I even have favorites from the 60s, 50s, 40s, 30s and even the 1920s.
Cool! I've seen a lot of oldies too, but never went as far as 1895😂. I usually don't avoid movies because they are old, I believe there's a lot of gold in the past just waiting for me to discover em.
Are you interested in movie making?
I have been a filmmaker, quite actively, between 2010 and 2018/19, although my first short was already shot in 2002, when you still walked around in diapers;^)
I am on a break, since then, mainly focused on ( book ) writing and illustrating.
Will probably get back to filmmaking, in the future, but not feeling it, these days.
P.S. The 1895 stuff, actually most films up till the 1920s, are boring ( with bad editing, theater acting and hardly a story ) but they were part of my curriculum ( film history ), in my early Uni years.
I was 4 by then! 😂
So you've got anything you made that you can recommend to me to watch?
For me I'm currently trying to save up so I can go into animation. With time I'm also going to go into movie making.
I wanted to say "when you were still drinking milk from your mom's breast" but this was even funnier :^)
Animation, I like that. I sure considered that but never really got into it. Why do you want to save money for it? For equipment or for a course?
For equipment. I already know how to do it. When I get equipment I'll practise for a while before I start putting stuff out.
Great! If not, I wanted to say: don't pay for an expensive course, everything can be found online and studying ( film ) merely leads to debt.
Seems like you figured all that out, already :^)
I graduated from uni, late 2007, just before the previous financial crisis ( 2008 ) and if I can prevent someone from spending money on studies / schooling, I will ;^)
Yeah, I already figured that out when I was learning in 2020-2021. So much potential online and most people haven't fully realized it yet.
Right.
When I started Uni ( in 2000 ), YouTube (2005) didn't exist. In fact, I only got my first email address and cellphone that year, at the age of 19 ;^)
The internet, prior to that, meant gaming and chatting. We still spend most of the days outdoors, back then, when we weren't in school ( said the 'old' man )
Good ol' times...
I lived a little of that life in my childhood, you know, phones and all these new tech only took over my life from around 2011.
I guess that's one of the advantages of living in Africa? ;^)
or am I racist now? :^)
Hahahaha. Definitely not racist cos it's kinda the truth. I'm not one of them overly sensitive motherfuckers.
I started using phones in 2008 (I was 10), but all the other adults already had phones and computers. There have always been computers and gadgets and stuffs here just like in other parts of the world but it was mainly the adults who used them. What this tells you is that it wasn't mainstream.
But from 2008 everything changed.
That's pretty clear from your post content haha!
Yeah, I mainly meant that it's kind of behind ( tech wise and all ), not unlike Portugal ;<)
True that. It was the year I entered the job market, after Uni and got punched in the face by it ;<)
Yeah, true it's kinda behind.
A good thing you're better now, man 👍
