Market cap of cryptocurrencies

Dear Hiveans,

As I am currently in learning mode (exam next week), today just a short post on my view about the development of cryptos.
These are the top cryptocurrencies as of today:

Down below is the dominance chart since 2013. You can see some ups and downs, but since 2022, Bitcoin dominance has increased steadily, meanwhile Ethereum is bleeding out (halved its dominance from nearly 20% to below 10%).

Stablecoins are on the rise; here you have the marketcap of USDT (Tether):
image.png

Privacy coins are also on the rise; I think Silbert is right here. I am not sure how long-term privacy coins' rise will be though. Here you have a 1-year chart of Zcash:

So where will be 5 years from now?
My estimation:

  1. BTC with a market dominance of >70% (today 58.2%)
  2. Tether (USDT)
  3. Zcash
  4. Monero
  5. -9. diverse stablecoins (USDC, DAI, RLUSD, TUSD, ...)
  6. Ethereum

What do you think?

Have a great holiday (either Pentecost or Memorial Day),
zuerich

P.S. Hive is doing very badly recently. Early this year, I reduced my Hive Power stake to one-third. By the end of the powerdown, my upvote was unfortunately only worth one-ninth of before the powerdown. Unfortunately, every slight upward movement of Hive is being used as an opportunity to sell. That's why my optimism regarding Hive has waned significantly over the past few months.

Liebe Hiver,

image.png

Wo werden wir also in fünf Jahren stehen?
Meine Einschätzung:

  1. BTC mit einer Marktdominanz von >70 % (heute 58,2 %)
  2. Tether (USDT)
  3. Zcash
  4. Monero
  5. –9. verschiedene Stablecoins (USDC, DAI, RLUSD, TUSD, …)
  6. Ethereum

Was denkst du?

get it.. cuz usa is lacking strong allies.. :D

i think BTC for sure the top, but every other spot is anyone's guess..

I think HIVE will make it way back up to its previous levels (around .20) when btc makes it back above 100k again.

I hope so, but wouldn't bet on it. 2 or 3 weeks ago, Hive pumped from 6 to 8 cents, and hours or a few days later we were back to 6 cents - because people just used this opportunity to sell off. Perhaps this will change as soon as the "weak hands" are out of Hive, but who knows...

The BTC dominance chart tells a clear story — it's been a flight to quality since 2022. ETH dominance halving from 20% to under 10% while BTC climbed is the market's way of saying 'prove your use case before I allocate.'

What's interesting is that stablecoin dominance growth isn't just a bear market phenomenon anymore. USDT market cap expanding even in flat/up markets suggests genuine demand for dollar access, not just de-risking. That's a structural shift from the 2017-2021 cycle where stablecoins were primarily trading pairs.
