State of the economy

Dear Hiveans,

I hope you are doing well and enjoying the summer (if living on the southern hemisphere... the winter, of course).

As I'm quite busy at the moment, today just a short update on the current economic and investment situation.

Bitcoin is holding up comfortably above 100k $. If the stock to flow model (explained here) has any predictive value, BTC should reach (and overshoot) 300k $ in the coming months. I doubt that, but who knows.

If Bitcoin rallies strongly over the coming months, I'd expect an altcoin summer with Hive rallying more than Bitcoin and reaching price levels above 1$. Let's hope for that and that Hive will hold those levels.

The dollar fell substantially since January, which is generally conducive to economic growth (as the US's exports become cheaper and more competitive in global markets, and as it encourages domestic consumption, stimulating local industries and job creation).

The yield curve (10 year minus 2 year) is still consolidating. If short term rates start falling quickly (perhaps by September, let's see what the Fed does), this curve could steepen sharply. This would mark a strong warning sign of economic troubles like higher unemployment, less credit creation, deflationary risks, credit defaults, etc. But right now this seems ok. And if the short term rates start falling slowly, this would probably be interpreted positively (cheaper credit, more liquidity) and liquidity gauges (more info here) like gold and Bitcoin could soar.

The VIX (volatility index) has also come down quite a lot since liberation day in April.

The biggest concern right now is the US labor market, (more info) which was weaker than expected in July, the "nonfarm payrolls count for the prior two months was revised down by a massive 258,000 jobs" and unemployment rate rose to 4.2% from 4.1% in June. And without Trump's strict immigration policies, these numbers would probably be far worse. I think this was just the beginning, but it may take a while before this really erupts.

Let's hope for the best, but prepare for some economic unrest...

ich hoffe, es geht euch gut und ihr genießt den Sommer (oder natürlich den Winter, wenn ihr auf der Südhalbkugel lebt).

Da ich momentan ziemlich beschäftigt bin, gibt es heute nur ein kurzes Update zur aktuellen Wirtschafts- und Investitionslage.

Bitcoin hält sich komfortabel über 100.000 $. Wenn das Stock-to-Flow-Modell (erklärt hier) einen Vorhersagewert hat, sollte BTC in den kommenden Monaten 300.000 $ erreichen (und überschreiten). Ich bezweifle das, aber wer weiß.

Wenn Bitcoin in den kommenden Monaten stark zulegt, würde ich einen Altcoin-Sommer erwarten, in dem Hive stärker als Bitcoin wächst und ein Preisniveau von über 1 $ erreicht. Hoffen wir darauf und dass Hive dieses Niveau halten kann.

Der Dollar ist seit Januar erheblich gefallen, was im Allgemeinen förderlich für das Wirtschaftswachstum ist (da die US-Exporte auf den globalen Märkten billiger und wettbewerbsfähiger werden und da dies den Binnenkonsum ankurbelt, wodurch lokale Industrien und die Schaffung von Arbeitsplätzen gefördert werden).

Die Zinskurve (10 Jahre minus 2 Jahre) konsolidiert weiterhin. Wenn die kurzfristigen Zinsen schnell zu fallen beginnen (vielleicht ab September; mal sehen, was die Fed macht), könnte diese Kurve stark ansteigen. Dies wäre ein deutliches Warnsignal für wirtschaftliche Probleme wie höhere Arbeitslosigkeit, geringere Kreditvergabe, Deflationsrisiken, Kreditausfälle usw. Aber im Moment scheint alles OK zu sein. Und wenn die kurzfristigen Zinsen langsam zu fallen beginnen, würde dies wahrscheinlich positiv interpretiert werden (günstigere Kredite, mehr Liquidität) und Liquiditätsventile (mehr Infos hier) wie Gold und Bitcoin könnten in die Höhe schnellen.

Der VIX (Volatilitätsindex) ist seit dem Liberation Day im April ebenfalls deutlich gesunken.

Die größte Sorge gilt derzeit dem US-Arbeitsmarkt (mehr Infos), der im Juli schwächer als erwartet ausfiel. Die „Zahlen der Beschäftigten außerhalb der Landwirtschaft für die beiden Vormonate wurden um massive 258.000 Arbeitsplätze nach unten korrigiert”, und die Arbeitslosenquote stieg von 4,1 % im Juni auf 4,2 %. Und ohne Trumps strenge Einwanderungspolitik wären diese Zahlen wahrscheinlich noch weitaus schlechter. Ich denke, das war erst der Anfang, aber es könnte eine Weile dauern, bis sich dies deutlich auswirkt.

Hoffen wir das Beste, aber bereiten wir uns auf wirtschaftliche Turbulenzen vor...
