Getting Some Yard Work Done

Today the weather is beautiful and with it being the first day of the week, and a US "holiday" tomorrow, it's a perfect time to get our garden going for the yard.

I'm finding all sorts of weeds and yard issues, one by one they're getting taken care of.

Building Work Endurance

I'm amazed just how quickly I get exhausted working in the yard. All that means is that I need to spend more time on my feet, using my muscles, getting things DONE!

We were very blessed with lots and lots of onions. We haven't been able to use them quickly enough and many of them have sprouted. They're still edible, but given just how many we have, most of them are going into the compost.

It's a bigger pile than I imagined initially. All these should break down (eventually) into excellent dirt, it will just take time.

I moved the middle dirt pile to the right to break down some more, it's almost ready for use. Next I bring the "raw" pile and flip it to the middle. At the bottom are all the onions. I wonder if any of them will make their way to the top of the pile!

Taking the decomposing bottom and bringing it to the top, thankfully I have straw too cover it up and help bring it to a new pile of dark and fertile composted soil.

Perhaps you can give away those excess onions to your friends, relatives, neighbors, or some charity. 🤔 !HOPE

I really don't like waste, especially all these onions, but once they sprout, they're unwanted by most people. It's my hope that all these onions will become an investment of fertile dirt for us to grow an abundance of other vegetables for our family. !BBH

Once they sprout to maturity, they loose resale value. Perhaps neighbors would take them, but our parents next door didn't want them and even our household couldn't eat them fast enough. I never like wasting food, but at least this way we'll get very nutrient-rich soil from them to help our garden provide an abundance of other vegetables. !BBH
