Colonial Mentality
Two male pageant winners and models recently drew flak for their statement that the country won't have a chance in international pageants if not for "halfies". This is a term used for half-Filipino and half-any other nationality, particularly from Western countries. People were quick to condemn the men for looking down on full-blooded Filipinos joining pageants. They were also blamed for being opportunists by using the country that brought them fortune.
People may not realize it, but many "halfie" celebrities have been using the Philippines to gain fame and fortune. When they are not bankable in the country anymore, they return to the countries where they came from. There are even politicians, and likely their families as well, who are not real citizens of the country. Besides, colonial mentality is common in the country. People hold high regards or seek validation from other countries.
Wednesday
I woke up early but I still wanted to get some snooze. We supported our sign language field service because it's the first day of our Pioneering Week. It was a success!
Hiked
We hiked in the mountain terraces, and we got to take pictures of beautiful views. I'd love to do this again someday.
