Why Do Good People Suffer?
This is one of the most asked questions in the world today. Many people who live right love others help the poor and do their best to follow God still go through pain suffering and deep trials. It leaves others wondering why would such a good person go through so much trouble. If God is good and just why does He allow good people to suffer?
First we must understand that suffering is a part of life. Whether we are good or bad rich or poor strong or weak every human being will face pain at some point in life. It may come through sickness heartbreak betrayal loss or disappointment. The Bible says in Job 14 verse 1 that man born of a woman is of few days and full of trouble. This shows that trouble is not a strange thing in life it is something that comes to all of us.
But when a good person suffers it hits differently. We expect that their good deeds should protect them. We expect that because they are prayerful and kind they should not experience sorrow. But if we look at the Bible we will see that many righteous people went through suffering. Joseph was a good man yet he was sold by his brothers and wrongly sent to prison. Job was called upright by God himself yet he lost everything including his health. Even Jesus the Son of God who was perfect in every way suffered greatly. He was betrayed rejected beaten and crucified.
So what does this mean? Does it mean being good is useless? No not at all. Suffering does not mean God has abandoned you or that your goodness is wasted. Sometimes suffering is allowed by God to shape us teach us and grow our faith. There are lessons we cannot learn in comfort. There are levels of strength we will never reach until we pass through the fire.
Good people often suffer because they carry great destinies. The devil attacks what he fears. He knows that your light is powerful so he tries to dim it through pain. But what he does not know is that every time he throws pain at you God turns it into purpose. Romans 8 verse 28 says all things work together for good to those who love God and are called according to His purpose.
Also suffering allows good people to comfort others. When you have passed through pain and God brings you out you are in a better position to encourage others. You understand their tears and you can speak from a place of experience. Your suffering gives you a voice that carries weight.
So if you are a good person going through tough times do not lose heart. You are not alone and your pain is not in vain. God sees you God loves you and God will bring beauty out of your ashes. Trust Him in the storm and keep doing good. In the end your testimony will shake nations and your story will give hope to many.
