If I had the power to permanently ban any social network, I would be living in a universe in which I would hate to live.

While there are countless issues that in my mind I wish I could eliminate, for various reasons, the mere fact that there existed a person with the power to veto either a social network or anything else, unilaterally, is something I would not consider right, and I would particularly be against it.

Power should never be concentrated in a single person, because even if that person has the best intentions, it is most likely that they would end up becoming corrupted and abusing their power.

Furthermore, social networks themselves are not bad or harmful. What is bad is the way they are used, and we can add that algorithms also make their use become addictive and cause what is usually called the "echo chamber effect."

Normally, people have personal tastes and preferences, but if the algorithm in its design causes the content presented to be biased or partial, it is shaping the way people think.

Social networks are a reality that no one can deny are part of our lives, no matter how much we resist.

From those that were born to connect acquaintances, as Facebook was in its beginnings, to those that exist to connect professionals and create a networking network, social networks are part of our daily life.

The use or abuse that people can make of them is in our own hands and a law or a ban could hardly eliminate them, therefore it is something we will have to get used to living with.

We can select the content we will see, and we can also exercise a verification of the data we consume, exercising a critical approach so that we are not victims of any type of manipulation.

We know that those who pull the strings of power have used mass media since they existed to spread their narratives to achieve their objectives.

Banning a platform would not be a solution, it would rather be another way of demonstrating the control they exercise over the population, and also an abuse of power.

Normally this is something dictators do, and we are all witnesses to how bad dictatorships can be, and the damage they cause. Therefore, if there were the option to censor or ban a medium or a social network, I would choose not to do it, because even though I consider that many are bad influences on society, I would not be a participant in an authoritarian attitude either.

Absolute power corrupts absolutely, and even though we believe we are the ones who have the truth and the power to improve the world, it is possible that we end up becoming dictators who lose their way and commit more harm than good.

That is why the best thing we can do as responsible adults is not to be part of the problem, and be more critical and inquisitive with what we consume on social networks so as not to promote content that does not add value.

I agree with you that banning social media isn't a solution and we should be responsible in our own terms and use it in a good way 😺

Absolute power corrupts absolutely,

You're 💯 right about that. Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely.

Banning a specific media app or website won't provide a solution to the issue of social media. From my perspective, the highest it will do is to drive people's attention from that certain app to another readily available one.
