Chinese Zoo Denies Bear is Person After Video Gets People Confused

These are not new footages though, it's a few years back but, those videos got a lot of people confused. Videos of Sun bears in Chinese Zoos, standing on their hind legs. The videos went viral on the internet.

One particular video was filmed at Hangzhou Zoo, China, on August 1, 2023. It's no surprise there if you think the bears are actual people wearing bear costumes. When the Sun Bears stand on their hind legs, they really do resemble actual people.

The China Zoo had to publicly deny that they were using people in costumes to deceive the Zoo Visitors. That's how close these Sun bears resemble people.

Because of how the Sun Bear's skin folds, you'd be tempted to think it looks like a man wearing baggy pants. The Zoo gave a good argument to explain why it's not a person. They said, a person wearing a fur suit in such hot weather would pass out real quickly.

It was 104°F or 40°C that day, which is far too hot for someone in a costume that thick and closed.

The sun bear’s skin folds are natural and it's a protective mechanism against predators. Sun bears are not that popular so many people usually get confused about their behavior.

Besides the confusion of they looking like real people in disguise, a fun fact about Sun bears is that they happen to be the smallest bear species in the world. They only weigh about 60 to 150 pounds. That's much lighter than most other bears.

Another fun fact about these creatures is that they have the longest tongues of any bear. Their tongues can reach up to 10 inches. This is a good thing because it helps them lick honey and eat insects like termites and ants.

They're not just a species that merely exists, they also play an important role in forest habitats by spreading seeds and controlling insect over population.

Their claws are up to 4 inches long and that makes it easier to dig for food or to climb trees.

If you see one in real life, you're in luck because unfortunately, Sun bears are in danger of extinction due to habitat loss and poaching. That's one of the reasons most people aren't even familiar with their species.

They often get hunted down by hunters who want their body parts. Why the body parts? Some claim to use it in traditional medicine.

The good thing is that conservation efforts are already in place by Zoos to protect s
Sun bears and raise awareness about their plight and scarcity.
