Railway Workers Unpaid for 7 months, damn🥺
As you probably already know if you've read my profile, I'm frm Ghana and some of the news out there is simply strange to me. Yes there's good and bad news but this is straight up ridiculous.
There as recent strike by railway workers, and they were protesting seven months of unpaid salaries. More than half a year working without pay. How exactly were they even surviving? These actions are left to go on like there's nothing wrong with it. To make matters worse, the had deteriorating working conditions too.
There's a management team, and it's a country meaning there's a government overseeing this. They could easily come up with an excuse that there's more pressing needs to take care of but they still expect the trains and railways to operate. People do this work and they need that money to survive so not paying them for more than half a year is so messed up.
The work stations have been neglected for years and these workers still manage to keep things going, so if anything they should be paid more but they've been neglected.
The strike has brought Ghana Railway Company Limited (GRCL) to a standstill, meaning you ain't getting transportation there. It's not just a fight for fair wages, something as simple as thei dignity is not being regarded. They pulled uo theis strike as a message to the authorities to show just how important they are.
You never see the value of a thing until it's not around anymore it stops working. That's the message they intend to send. When chaos breaks forth at the railway and people start complaining maybe that's when the authorities will see the need to pay people that have been working tirelessly for a system to run.
This is happening in so many places, employers taking for granted the value of the workers they have. Without the workers, you don't have any operation which means the system doesn't work.
I'm still trying to figure out how they managed to survive 7 months without salary, these people need a freaking medal for that level of patience but everyone has his limits and they definitely reached theirs.
Seven months without pay is not just going to put a financial strain on the worker, but whoever depends on him or her, families and friends. It also brings emotional and psychological burden.
Basic utility bills cannot even be afforded. It's worse because if the currency is also performing poorly and basic things are getting more expensive, cutting salary is almost like you intend to kill the person.
They're all hanging on by a thread and eventually frustration will lead them to go on strike and not only that, some that are quick tempered will probably start a fight.
People that have been so committed over years are being treated this way. That's what's wrong with work. I hope the government and management take action and help these people. It's simply unfair.
