The true difference between inflation and Shrinkflation

I came across that Donald Trump video talking about Tic Tacs and how there’s a huge box compared to a little box of Tic Tacs and I felt that it put a great visual to the issue of inflation and how it impacts your wallet.

Do you remember this video? This is tac Tac, this is tic tac. He actually did give them the biggest advertisement ever.

Inflation is relatively simple to see because the price on the shelf is different every time you go to the store. You notice when you go to buy your tin of milk and the price has gone up compared to last month’s price. You can feel that in your wallet.

Later in the year I found that shrinkflation was not as easily perceived by most people and infact it was not until recently that I started researching into the Shrinkflation concept. When a person buys a pack of cookies at the same price as before they don’t think about any change happening since the price for the pack remains the same. But when they open the box and see that there are fewer cookies than before or when the bottle looks exactly the same size but it is in fact a smaller bottle. You paid the same amount of money, but got less product.

I really don’t think the thing that concerned me most about this video is what I have just explained, it is how each option produces the same outcome, having less value for your money. Just because one option has the shopkeeper increase the price of an item and the other option has the shopkeeper decrease the number of items in a package, you still lose in both cases.

This short article just as a visual, was not about Donald Trump at all, my objective is that it will be able to help you see inflation happening today.

These days I find myself looking at the sizes of food packages much more closely than I use to no matter what the size of the package is I still must buy food and household supplies based on what I need at that time. At least I can see what it is happening or how it is happening even if there is not much I can do about it.

The best though if it's a brand product is to look for brands that give me more value for my money.

Yup. You go to buy ice cream.. and it's no longer 16oz. Now it's 14.5 or 13.7oz. for the same price. It's manufacturing bullshit, IYAM. and what Drumpf is doing is not showing shrinkflation. They sell a small version of the tictac dispenser. Sooo.. he's a dummy.

The size changes are terrible these days and they bank on nobody actually checking the fine print on the carton until you're already home
