Three Tune Tuesday: Punk from 70's, 80's and 90's
When you think of punk band there are so many classic bands over the decades. Although I am a heavy metal fan I do have some fun punk additions for this week. It's hard to talk about punk without including the Ramones. They came out of NYC in the mid seventies and became one of the most influential bands in history. Here we start with a classic "I Wanna Be Sedated" from the late seventies.
Onto the eighties, so many great choices here. But I thought I would go west coast this time to LA and not quite as well known. Oingo Boingo came out of LA as an evolving act into a serious punk band with a twist, a horn section. Before Danny Elfman became famous for movie music production he fronted the band. Here is an live version of one of their great songs "No One Lives Forever"
And to finish off we will stay with the LA scene with The Offspring. Formed in the late eighties they became one of the biggest punk band of the nineties and one of my absolute favorites. Here we see one of their big hits from the late nineties "Pretty Fly"

I played at CBGB’s where the Ramones played all the time. Joey practically lived there. He was a very cool dude. RIP

My experience around NY is there's always traffic, just like LA freeways...

I love punk and I love ska and I love the sax and horn sections so I love Oingo Boingo.
Of course The Ramones were fluffing legends, but we never really heard much American punk apart from the late 80s and 90s like The Offspring. who are great!
But not really punk in my eyes!

Glad you like them! They are one of my favorites out of the 80's. All three bands are great! I'll have to try to come up with a few more for next week. I hope the sun has finally come out there in Scotland!
