When you leave a meaningful comment on someone's post then they ghost 👻
It was a dissenting comment but still...
I try to keep my engagement up and will answer those in agreement and naysayers alike but maybe this one just needs more time. 🕜
I'll give it another day. I'm patient. 👌
Could be a good way to reward fellow engagers 🤔
So, what about you? Do you engage or ignore dissenting voices on your threads? I think it's important to promote discussion so I do the former for sure.
It is true that comments generally don't get rewarded as highly as main posts but figure it's worth my time to keep things poppin' e.g. more interesting. Maybe one day Hive will have interesting comment threads on par with Reddit. That would be awesome.
Thanks for stopping by 👌

Well, I generally like to respond to both dissenting and consenting voices alike. If someone took the time to say something - anything! - on my post, I want to honor it, even if I don't agree with what they said. (Okay, the only exception are bots and comments without much content value, such as "nice post!").
But that's only here on Hive. On mainstream social media I have cut down my commenting to close to zero. I don't see a point in feeding the trolls, no matter which side they stand on. Ha, I've even told people off for trolling, even though I could agree with the point they were trolling for.
So yeah, Engagement tokens seem like a good idea. Or any other tipping token for that matter. I'm not up-to-date with them, so no idea which is the best. I've heard a lot of good things about Pizza, and apparently Wine stopped working. My tip of choice is !BEER which seems to be still up and running. Cheers!
I know the Internet adage of not feeding the trolls but I like to try to counter troll them when I see an opening. I think maybe this is something that one may be successful if they are good with banter but understand the trolls intention may be looking for a gotcha. Anyways...
Unless the latest hard fork has changed things, I understand it is generally more expedient to reward in tokens rather than one's voting power being subjected to the convergent curve. I am going to tag @antisocialist as I think he would be able to provide more insight on whether the HF changed that.
In any case, I think BEER or ENGAGE would definitely be a good supplement to my existing comment voting patterns especially when I have exhausted my mana to where it is now. I need to check if I have enough beer to reward now. Thanks!
The curve is gone, the poor tax is dead.
You stake is now worth up to 50% more!
All voting is linear on day one, later votes get penalized and the penalty sent to the day one voters, so keep that in mind.
It seems the hive is going to second layer rewards.
Not right now, probably not for years, but the push in on from some stakeholders.
It is not out of the realm of the possible for a token to exceed what we have in the hive, and good on them for doing it, imo.
I'm powering them all up on the off chance that one moons.
Tipping frees one from pool, and its politics.
I'm still on the phase on the removal of Hive author / curation rewards and full migration to layer 2 but maybe a phased approach would be warranted. Don't get rid of inflation entirely for these but perhaps reduce it as a "try before we buy" and defining concrete metrics on whether it makes sense to go further or revert. Thanks for clarifying!
Weeeeell... I've never been the one to shy back from a good argument. But that also means, it has to be a good argument! If some dumb-twit resorts to out-of-context name-calling, fact-bending (or outright inventing stuff), and calling backup for ten other trolls, accusing me of random things I've never said, then I'll rather turn my back. Sorry. But since the above is also my definition of a troll, I have to admit that I don't mind anger, or even some creative insults, as long as they fit the context. However, all of that is mostly conceptual, since most actual trolls are incapable of any of this. So it's either all or nothing, and with such options I'd much rather go for nothing. But that's just me.
Another thing I was gonna mention in my last reply:
Even though comments are generally hardly ever rewarded, I still consider them to be blogger's gold, since that's what tends to lead to follows, and thus many upvotes in the long term.
I am a woman so that'll be cash please and thank you. Tokens belong at Chucky Cheese.
At least they talk....I have the warm fuzzy kitty who shows up on mine, lol, he/she is getting rich off me, pennywise that is.
...and yes, then there are the surreal kinda comments, which I haven't even mentioned. Do those come in kitty form to you @sunlit7? When they visit me they often take on the shape of a turtle, but occasionally they come dressed up as sunshine.
Yeah they usually come as a cuddly kitty or a smiling face called catnet, he/she is sure earning their catnip off me...lol.

.I takes me a long time to write messages. I rarely write all of the replies that I think to write in a given week. I guess it appears that I ghost people.
This is especially true with dissenting comments.
I personally dislike flame wars. When I write a reply to a dissenting comment, I usually write then reply, then go to a different tab and work on other things before posting the reply.
This cool down period helps prevent me from dropping a reply that I might other regret.
The problem with the cool down idea is that I often forget to publish the reply.
The life cycle of a HIVE post is less than a week so I figure that it really is no big deal.
BTW: I completely forgot that I owned a grand of ENGAGE tokens. In response to your second meme:
!ENGAGE
I think people can disagree and not get nasty. Now, it doesn't always play out that way but think the general goal is we should try to be civil. In this regard, I think the Hive community is much better than say Reddit where things can devolve quickly and heavy handed mods will end the discussion.
Thanks for the token and sharing your thoughts. It is appreciated.

I bailed on a good convo with a contest entant w/o a goodbye this week b/c my arm started screaming at me
hpwever, the nature of HIVE's reward system does mean that curators are les likely to hang around and engage on content
I have made this point several times in threads on the reward systyem, but I have never seen it addressed as a serious issue
...ghosting b/c my arm hurts
When I leave negative comments, not the asking for fight comments but points against the topic, I don't expect any notice from author. If they were just posting for the sake of discussion then there's a chance they might bother replying back but I just assume like most of the "discussion" threads popping up that it's all for the votes and less for the interaction.
The whole I'm open-minded but can't take others that don't align with my views just wastes people's time to engage. I think it's well deserved that some don't have engagement based on how they conduct themselves. Some just need to curve their entitlement for attention as they have to earn their audience first.
