Rising Star Meme #78 - Can't Trust No Sleeping Tabs! + Fix
Sleeping Tabs
You must have encountered this problem while playing Rising Star as well - the "Sleeping Tab". Browsers are especially notorious for using too much of your computer's free RAM - slowing it significantly in the process.
What browsers do to prevent (or at least lower the impact) is to put the tabs that haven't been used recently into "sleep" to save some RAM. What sleeping means here is that the processes and calculations are halted, so your idle tabs don't take away from your processing power.
The Problem
Rising Star is an idle game - you start your mission and go about your day. What happens here is that after some minutes of inactivity, your browser automatically labels the game's tab as "inactive" and this might affect its calculations AND most importantly the time left for your mission to finish.
Sometimes you see the timer being frozen, or after one hour or so, your timer still shows half an hour left till the completion of a 1-hour mission. This happens especially when you're running low on RAM - doing some RAM-heavy task or something.
The Solution
While this is no GIANT, game-restricting problem, it could get annoying. Fortunately, there are a couple of ways to fix this problem.
Disabling Sleeping Tabs
There are some tutorials out there on how to disable "Tab Sleeping" in your browser. Just google "How to disable Sleeping Tabs in YOUR_BROWSER_NAME".
I wouldn't recommend it since I've already explained the reason and logic behind it, and disabling it might mess with your RAM usage, resulting in some undesired results.
Setting an Alarm
Yeah, that's pretty simple. Just set an alarm on your phone. I'm sure your phone doesn't sleep your alarms to save processing power - that'd be disastrous. :)))
Refreshing the Game Manually
As I mentioned before, your browser puts your inactive tabs into sleep, so as you stay active in-game, you wouldn't face any inconveniences. Simply clicking on your mission timer refreshes your page.
You can also change "Zone" in-game to refresh the timer and see the "real" timer if it's been manipulated by the lack of resources.
Any of the above buttons work as they refresh the page.
Note
Clicking the missions in the mission list will NOT refresh the page (as it only shows the 'pre-loaded' stuff, so avoid that)
The Good Ol' ctrl+R
Now, I wouldn't really recommend this either, as it reloads the WHOLE game page and you'd have to click "START A MISSION" again to go into the main game screen (which can easily get frustrating and repetitive).
But there's no stopping you if that's your cup of tea. ;)
That's it for today's "tutorially" meme.
Stay safe and don't let your tabs sleep :))
Cheers~

Yeah i noticed that immediately, so annoying
True. I always set a countdown timer, but it could become quite a chore after a while 🤕
