The Daily Meme #281!

When the math of the reward pool was set up there were not many people here.
Mostly stincy insiders, random early adopters, and large investors with the cash to spare.
Under those circumstances setting up the rules this way made sense (to them).
Those days are gone.
We are past the days of enticing investors with kickbacks and rules that benefit them to the exclusion of the mass adopters.

I was over the boys club shortly after I started figuring out how the math of the pool worked.
Curation gangs and large stakeholders (more than 1000mv) determine largely who gets rewards, and who doesn't get any at all.
If you don't brownnose them, and/or join a gang, your rewards will be less.
(It's just a fact of the hive in its current iteration.)
If you vote on posts with more than the median payout, currently ~1.75htu, you are centralizing rewards to the larger earners.
Now that curation rewards are linear, there is no incentive to vote large payout posts, you get the same rewards on a small payout as a larger one.
You centralize the inflation by voting trending posts to the disadvantage of yourself.
The hive is most equitable the more the rewards spread out.

To be clear, many large stakeholders do show restraint, if they didn't not very many of us would be getting rewards at all.

Changing the reverse auction from sending rewards to the author to the rewards pool was a great way to stop the maximizers that were only self voting at the time.
No doubt this change changed behaviors for the better.

I think those days are over.
The reverse auction isn't a thing anymore, unless you look deeper into the curation aspects of voting after the first 24 hours.
(An increasing portion of your curation rewards go to the first day voters the later you vote on a post. The penalty is quite severe for day 6 curators.)

It's time to take the benefits of abuse mitigation from the insiders and their sycophants, imo.
(Sycophants=showing deference to the powerful while holding contempt for those that have no power to benefit you.)
(If you are reading this, the odds are you are not in the club.)

Those rewards flagged away from abusive posts should be burnt.

This benefits every holder equally.

Rather than enrich further the very folks already taking a larger percentage of the inflation, we should burn flagged rewards, imo.

If you agree, tell @blocktrades about it.
Their coders are likely the ones that will have to make the changes.

Maybe we can get @howo on board, too.

What needs to be crystal clear is that my voice alone will not be the one that tips the balance.
If you want to increase the value of your holdings, speak up about this change to the reward pool math.

Interesting. It's so hard to keep up.

This change is minimal, not that many rewards are being taken back by us flaggots.
We need more folks to delegate, follow trails, or flag for themselves.
Lots of inflation going places the crowd may not really want it to go to.
This is the game as originally devised.
Only 'the best' content will make it to trending.

I'm running out of complaints, if you have some you can spare I'd be glad to use them.

It's not a bad idea, but can you imagine the downvote drama if there were financial incentives involved?

Remember stakeholders like burned rewards!

Another way to reward stakeholder is to burn rather than allocate rewards... it'd be a downvote bonanza. lol

The drama quotient has taken a real hit since the fork.
Burning benefits all stakeholders equally.

The rewards involved are not that much, it's just the idea of giving more to the people that get more because they have more.
That is an inward spiral, not one that benefits more people.

it'd be a downvote bonanza

We can hope, maybe trending would finally reflect what the crab bucket deems 'good'.

I think it's an interesting idea, I just think it would have a very different effect than what you assume it will have.

Remember who puts out the burn posts and loves them. Every downvote would become a burn post. lol.

If people start helping with the copy/paste and plagiarism posts that would be a good thing.

Remember who puts out the burn posts and loves them.

If this change helps shed light on those acting against community interests, that is good long term policy, no?

Meh, I wouldn't argue against it or for it.

I would just continue to avoid those who need to try to police each other with stake.

I just watch what is happening and invest accordingly. Per usual.

I reckon your math is off. Whales receive more rewards than others on the platform. When rewards are flagged back into the pool that does not benefit all Hive users equally, but primarily whales. If I am incorrect on this point I'd appreciate being set straight, as always. However I did the math a long time ago, and see no reason or means by which it might have changed since.

Yes, you have misread my intention.
Currently, the rewards go to the pool and thereby, to the 'most popular' posts.
I am asking for the rewards to be burned rather than just returned to the people already getting the most.

It does open a new dynamic, but with no account having more than 1%, one that may expose those that act against the best interests of the commons, but not enough that they can't be controlled in their cancerous behaviors.

We may find out who is doing this to line their own pockets rather than allow a rising tide to lift all boats equally.
