Here is a book that you don't hear much about.
It's is from 1935.
Pre-wars.
It reads like it was written about today.
All the same social problems, but with a very different society.
Tldr.
I couldn't get you a free copy in pdf, but you can read it at your leisure by simply creating a fake email and remembering the password to it.
Not that that gives you any privacy, but it makes it infinitesimally harder to track you and adds a modicum of deniability, what with the ip address spoofing software out there.
I haven't had the time to read this, yet, just the first few pages.
You'll have to tell me how many truths you discover that slay a sacred cow.
Most of mine are already gone.
It happens when you spend your time reading for new ideas, and not to escape old ones.

There is a key distinction of reading to escape and reading to learn. The pulp fiction harlequin books for pleasure are a bit of a shame. I have read some of his short stories, there is nice voice behind the words, or it is just in my head. However the flow of text was poignant and relevant. Thanks for another book suggestion.

Meh, it's like selling crypto and then watching it go up and suddenly your 20usd pizza is worth more than 2mil usd.
Not much you can do about it after the fact.
But, yes, a mentor earlier in my life could have smoothed out some of the rough spots, I'd think.
Be careful what you ask for, knowledge is a double edged sword.
Those of us that know some history are doomed to watch those that don't repeat the same crap time after time.

Oh i know that feeling but mine was a burrito....most expensive meal I ever had.
Mentors and light house along the way have treated me well, have pushed me further to go further and that has been a good thing. Some times i had to stand on the edge of my own mind and strength with no direction, the rough edges had to get smoothed out later.
Knowledge has the effect of letting you see what it is that is happening. Some time it might be best to look away, the pain is too deep to stop them from doing what they might not want to know or learn from.
It is hard to say....each situation is different in a way.
We each get a row to hoe, and we alone can hoe it.
