For any old Hivers/Splinterlands players who've just come back and are confused, fret not! Even with the name and format tweaks, right at it's core, battles are still the foundation of these posts.

In this week's edition of my Splinterlands Community Engagement Challenge: Teach & Triumph, I will do something drastically different from my usual battle showcases. Instead of war, I will become a peaceful teacher showing all new players how to most effectively navigate the topic of "Teach & Triumph".

Hello there again, to all Splinterlands fans! Buckle up because Frontier Format is here, and it’s rewriting the rulebook. This week’s “Teach & Triumph” challenge is your golden ticket to share how newbies (and even veterans) can dominate with zero spending. We’ll dig deep into Frontier’s mechanics, walk through Campaign Mode, show how to build smart decks with Foundation cards, break down the reward system, and guide players on owning and leveraging those hard earned cards. Think of this as your friendly "boots on the ground" walkthrough that's aimed at turning rookies into battle hardened legends.

That being said, here's some tips and tricks from Yours Truly which will hopefully help any new player who comes across this guide. Read on to find out more! 😜

With all that being said, here is how I would advice ALL players on how you can capitalize on some of these simple strategies!

Your Frontier Survival Guide

1. What is Frontier and why your wallet isn’t invited

Frontier is Splinterlands’ newest ranked mode that’s 100% free-to-play! 😱 That means no SPS stake required, no cash needed! You unlock it simply by completing the campaign or buying the Spellbook, then you’re in the game. It's deliberately capped at Bronze, Silver, and Gold leagues, making it a welcoming frontier (pun intended) for new players. Once you hit Gold I, you’ll be reset at season’s end, but that’s when the real grind begins. This format isn’t just a gateway, it’s a launchpad for pure strategy.

I still remember crushing my first Bronze match with only starter cards and felt like a champion, knowing I’d done it without spending a dime or borrowing legendaries. Frontier is a testament that skilful play beats deep pockets.

2. Campaign Mode: Your Introductory Bootcamp

Every new player starts at the same place: Campaign Mode (Book 1). As you complete chapters, you unlock core Foundation cards, which become your Frontier toolkit. By the time you finish, you’ve unlocked a deckable pool — no need to scramble for market buys or grind endlessly. It’s like getting your first sword and shield in one tidy package.

Personally, I blitzed through those missions while juggling coffee and procrastination but each reward felt satisfying. It’s an onboarding experience that rewards attention, not spending.

3. Foundation Cards Only: Equal Playing Field, Epic Strategy

Frontier restricts deck building to the Foundations set only — no Promo, no Gladiators, nada. That means everyone starts with the same toolkit, forcing creativity and clever synergy. I've seen brand new players whip up absurdly effective lineups that caught seasoned summoners off guard.

It’s chess, not checkers. Matchups come down to decision trees, not who holds the shiniest cards. That shift in mindset is pure magic for anyone wanting to hone deckcraft fundamentals.

4. Reward Structure: League Prizes, Chests, and Daily Gains

Frontier’s reward system is shaped to grow your collection steadily:

• League advancement gives chests and card draws. Once you move from Bronze III to Gold I, the spoils grow even juicier.
• Daily wins (up to 3 rewards per day from 5 wins each) net Foundation card draws or pack chests.
• Rewards start small and scale consistently, so by the time you’re hanging in Gold, you’ll be stacking serious value.

I structured my days around those three wins, slowly building a deck that started packing real punch. It doesn’t feel like a grind at all, but rather, it felt like levelling up at your own pace.

5. Full Ownership: Your Cards, Your Rules

Here’s the cherry on top: all cards you earn in Frontier are yours to keep, trade, fuse, or upgrade. You’re not creating value you can’t access — everything you win is real, sellable, and fully tradable on the market. I flipped a couple of rares for DEC and used it to fund my Modern play. So it turns out Frontier’s F2P grind can bankroll your entire Splinterlands empire!

That blockchain-backed ownership? That’s the frontier of gaming itself.
