🦃 “The Harvest Run of Ajax Lightfoot”

A Splinterlands Thanksgiving Lore Tale

In the far fields of Praetoria, where the gold shaded trees sway like dancers and the soil hums with the heartbeat of ancient titans, the Festival of the Harvest Moon was beginning. Lanterns floated through the dusk, each carrying a whispered gratitude to the sky. Children fed berries to tamed beasts, musicians readied their pipes, and elders prepared the long wooden tables for the feast.

But as the first fires were lit, someone was missing.

Someone who never missed a race, a feast, or a chance to celebrate life itself.

Someone fast enough to outrun storms, arrows, and his own shadows.

Ajax Lightfoot! Gladiator, sprinter, wanderer, and, in his own way, a Thanksgiving hero.

🍁 The Call of the Festival

The Life Temple bells chimed, a summons for all warriors to return home for the Harvest. Their notes rang across the plains, echoing like warm reminders of hearth and family.

And somewhere on the distant Ember Roads, Ajax Lightfoot heard them.

He was panting, half from exertion, half from exhilaration, as he finished yet another brawl against bandits who had underestimated the “small guy with the bow.” Dust clung to his boots, and a few bruises decorated his arms like badges.

But when the bells reached his ears, his expression shifted.

A grin. A spark. A memory.

“The feast! I almost forgot!”

He tightened the straps on his quiver, tucked his short-bow under his arm, and with a burst of speed that made the grass flatten behind him, he began a sprint toward home. Speed was his gift, perhaps his only luxury, and he wasn’t about to miss the one night of the year where no blood spilled, where no blades clashed, where peace was more powerful than magic.

🍂 The Journey Home

The run was long. Ajax passed through the Brightwood Thicket, dodging low branches as if they were playful training obstacles. He leapt across the Singing Stream, laughing as water droplets glittered around him. He raced alongside Lumivine deer herds until they tired before he did.

But the last stretch! Ah, the last stretch was always the true challenge.

The "Hill of Gratitude".

Steep enough to punish the legs. Long enough to test the heart. And symbolic enough that many warriors paused halfway just to reflect.

But Ajax Lightfoot?
He didn’t pause.

He ran.

Each footstep slammed into the earth like a drumbeat:

Thankful for the speed in his legs.
Thankful for the battles behind him.
Thankful for the friends waiting ahead.
Thankful simply to be alive.

Halfway up, a group of children pointed and cheered.

“There he is! Ajax! He’s going to make it before the feast starts!”

Their voices made him run faster.

Near the top, the elderly baker Myra waved a loaf of honey bread.
“Hurry now, you lightning footed rascal! Your seat’s getting cold!”

Ajax sprinted like the wind was chasing him.

And then, breathless, dusty, exhilarated, he reached the summit.

Below him, the Harvest Feast glowed like a promise fulfilled.

🦃 A Seat Saved, A Story Shared

When Ajax arrived, he was met with cheers and laughter. Someone shoved a plate into his hands. Someone else tossed him a scarf woven in festival colors. A child tugged at his sleeve and asked him to retell the story of how he once outran a charging Minotaur by zig-zagging between trees.

Ajax sat at the long wooden table, sweat drying on his brow, heart swelling with a warmth no battlefield had ever given him.

And for the first time in weeks, he let himself slow down.

When the Harvest Elder asked each warrior to share what they were thankful for this year, Ajax raised his hand.

“I’m thankful for this,” he said softly.
“For the chance to run home to people worth running to.
For the land beneath my feet.
And for every day I get to keep moving forward.”

His voice wasn’t loud.
It didn’t need to be.

Everyone heard him.

🍁 The Harvest Run Tradition

From that year onward, young warriors across Praetoria began re-enacting Ajax’s legendary sprint home. It became a tradition, "The Harvest Run", symbolizing gratitude, endurance, and the joy of returning to what matters most.

And Ajax?
He still runs it every year.

Not to win.
Not for glory.

But because every step reminds him of the blessings given to those who keep moving — not just quickly, but purposefully.
