What Be@rbrick, Splinterlands, and Hive Can Teach Us About Community

I saw this ad at the MRT today and it reminded me of the NFT scene during the previous bull run.

I'm not sure if NFTs are still a hot topic nowadays, but here in the city, toy and figure collectors are still actively collecting items like these. It amazes me how brands like Be@rbrick and Labubu have managed to maintain a strong collector base even today. It just goes to show that brick and mortar stores can still generate buzz, even in times when digital collectibles have nearly taken over the market.

I also remember that Hive had its share of the NFT scene a few years ago, Hive Punks if I'm not mistaken. There were several other NFT projects on Hive that are still ongoing today. Progress might be slow, and some artworks might not be selling well, but it's encouraging to see artists still motivated to create and share their work on the Hive blockchain.

My hope is that investors will support the NFT market on Hive in the same way people support collectibles in my city. This kind of backing can give artists the motivation to keep creating. It's also a great way for them to earn income without the added pressure of staking their earnings. Hive can truly serve as a viable marketplace for digital art.

I think it would be cool to use $HIVE in this way. After all, this platform is meant to help people earn crypto income, right?

You may wonder, how will this affect the reward pool? The short answer is: it won’t. These one-time payments don’t come from the reward pool—they come from the liquid Hive of other users. So, in this case, the reward pool remains unaffected. I believe this kind of money circulation is actually beneficial for the ecosystem. While some people are concerned about users cashing out, we should focus on finding ways to retain the coins within the platform by fostering an internal economy of buyers and sellers doing business here.

So far, I haven’t seen a successful project, aside from Splinterlands, that has truly achieved this. I’m glad it’s based on the Hive blockchain—without it, this chain might have become a ghost town long ago. The future of content creation and curation on Hive is uncertain, especially considering the shift in public interest. Today, short-form video content is what most viewers and consumers prefer. That’s just the reality. We either adapt to this shift or watch the platform slowly turn into an echo chamber.

In any case, I hope developers or community leaders will step up and make things happen—just like the leaders behind brands such as Labubu and Be@rbrick have done for their communities.

The Hive ecosystem has so much untapped potential, and it's up to us as a community to bring it to life. By supporting creative projects and building a sustainable internal economy, we can keep Hive thriving for years to come. Let’s continue pushing forward, adapting, and creating value together.

To some extent, yes... Hive needs to evolve with content trends. Short-form video could be a powerful tool to attract new users while keeping the core values of the platform intact.

I remember seeing Hive Punks before, and you're right, even if NFTs aren’t the hottest trend anymore, it’s nice to see artists still pushing forward here on Hive. I think it would be really fun if more people in our generation could support and discover digital art on Hive like we do with merch or game skins.

Absolutely! Just like skins and merch, NFTs can be a fun and meaningful way to support creators. Hive’s art scene still has room to grow, and it’s exciting to think how more Gen Z involvement could help shape it.
