Oriental Dwarf King Fisher , also called the black backed kingfisher is a bird so small it could fit into a pocket. Its habitat is the tropical setting and is also a partial migrant and it's found in places like Indian subcontinent and South-East Asia. It stays in lowland forest very close to streams and ponds. It feeds on spiders, worms, fishes, frogs, crabs, and lizard. The Small but special bird is easily differentiated and spotted because of its red bill , Yellow Orange Tail, Lilac _Rufous Upper body, and blue _ black back. The Oriental Dwarf King Fisher is one of the smallest, Species, and it's slightly bigger than a medium size Hummingbird. It is 12.5 _ 14 centimetres in length, from Tail to Bill.

The Females have a different Measurement and they weigh 14 - 16 Grams and males more heavier than the females. Both Males and Females are alike and can't be easily spotted. This Bird has three toes, however there are other kinds of Kingfishers that have three toes. The Oriental King Fisher is a wet land dweller , that is spread across places like Indian subcontinent, SouthEast Asia. As I stated earlier they like to stay close to the streams or a small pond . But they keep there nest far from water. They fly at 1-2 Meters low to the ground. Their Favourite habitat is thick shaded areas of the forest lowlands close to the river . There egg laying is during the Month of July to September period , in the South West India, and February to July in Sri Lanka. There build there nest by the River Bank , Road Cutting, or in the Soil Beside the roots of Fallen Trees, Often away from water. The eggs are laid in the morning within a space period of one day. The eggs are immediately incubated , but for as long as 17 _18 days . Funny enough the Male and Female take turns to incubate the egg, but the female has a longer duty of incubating the egg at night. The hatching period is 18 to 20 days and chicks fledge out in the morning.
