Expensive EVs Aren't the Solution For Many Drivers

avatar

Gas prices are hitting record highs and for drivers things have been getting expensive to the point that it might mean prioritizing some trips over others.

The standard of living for millions decreases as things get more expensive for food, driving, and more. The solution? According to some it is as simple as buying an electric vehicle.

But many drivers today cannot afford an EV. These vehicles also aren't immune from criticism over what impact they might have on the environment as well.

The average cost of an EV in 2021 was around $56,000 and that would mean people going into debt if they were going to make the transition.

Is that a wise idea?

Most Americans don't have the funds to afford a small emergency of only a few thousand, where are they going to come up with tens of thousands for a new vehicle? That "solution" doesn't even approach the realm of being helpful.

The EV's are not logically advisable for the average commercial driver, the cons are more than the pro. That being said, the cost of maintenance alone is on the reverse side of the sales.

These are hard times almost in every country rn and the best way to stay strong is to buy less travel less and save more lol. That's what I do most times.

An Ev is a nice idea but I prefer using it to invest more in the crypto world than to cruise an Ev and sell later for quick cash which happens most time to a lot of people.

It's curious that in all the talk about ev vehicles, it's rarely, if ever, included with pictures of the ultra poor in indonesia bulldozing their jungles to make room for pitting the toxic waste produced from end-of-life ev parts.

Same stuff happens in CAR and DRC... it's all fucked man. But, progress, right?
