Based on my limited horsemanship, I think it's the stallions that have such long front manes. The geldings and the mares don't, at least mine did not. Also, maybe the breed of horse has something to do with it.

I suppose they do get used to it; the things we humans put on them, but oh to be free! Running in a meadow unhindered by anything! Can you imagine it?
