Why I Just Bought Commercial Land In PsyberX
Well... I did it.
I bought more expensive land in yet another virtual world.
I like the concept of land that I can own in a game a lot. In game assets are great but there's something about the land asset that just screams rare, important, and profitable. Land means business, farming, or just plain renting it out for income.
- I now have 1 plot in Decentraland
- 2 in Splinterlands
- 3125 properties in Upland
- and now 3 small plots and one big commercial lot in PsyberX
What's it all mean? Well, right now a bunch of nothing.
Decentraland exists but is a laggy, empty world with a dream and little hope. I can build whatever I want there. It's just that no one will see it.
Splinterlands has been hyping up land and teasing a release for a year and as soon as they build a separate company for Warner Music Games, a toy and board games company for those plushies and board games, and put out another pack of cards that land expansion is really, really, really going to come out.
PsyberX is exciting but it might be a little too exciting?? They are promising the world in a way no one else could deliver it for 1/10th the funding and I'm not sure what it is that makes them so qualified to fill these promises. But hey, they've got land so I'm in.
And Upland is a weird experiment no one quite understands but the team just keeps plugging away and they seem like they are onto something. But that something isn't here quite yet. Soon. Always soon.
At this point, there's a lot in my head screaming at me to just sell the whole idea of the metaverse and walk away for a while. And chances are, I will regret not doing that but for some reason, I'm drawn in.
While part of me believes Decentraland is the best bet--and it's by far the most expensive land I have so the market seems to be agreeing with me--I also question the logic of a purposeless world suddenly filling in just because it's there. I don't believe building it means they will come.
What makes a lot more sense to me is that the metaverse will start out a patchwork of games, experiences, and destinations people will actually have a reason to hang out in. Games make the most sense here because we have spent the last 50 years playing video games together inside virtual worlds. We get the concept already and we like it.
This means popular games like Splinterlands and hopefully PsyberX will have the edge in creating those first few patches of quilt that the rest sew themselves onto.
I don't play first person shooter games at all. I just don't like them so I will probably never play PsyberX. However I recognize that they are very popular and the concept of killing others in cyberspace and taking their ante is one I can just see a lot of people being very into. That's why I now own about 300k LVL, three small plots of land of which there are 10k of, and now I'm fortunate to own one of only 50 commercial plots.
These plots are 20x the size of the smaller ones and they are said to have some great perks coming for the few lucky buyers.
What am I going to do with this land if it ever actually launches? Who knows?
Most likely, it's simply renting it out to someone with a greater vision and living off the income.
I am very excited though about the idea of setting up a shop to sell NFT's from other Hive games.
One idea I keep mentioning is taking my crops I grow and tools I make in dCrops (oh I have a bunch of land there too) and selling them to passersby in PsyberX if there's ever a need for food.
Something about that mixing of Hive worlds is really interesting to me. After years of farming games being so popular, wouldn't it be cool if you could take those crops to market and sell them to real people for real cash? I think so.
So why did I buy this commercial land in Psyberx?
Well, it cost me 500,000 LVL which is .1% of the entire max supply of the LVL. If LVL ever takes off and gets to a few bucks per token I'm going to kick myself for sure but I still have almost 300k LVL left so I'll be OK.
If LVL ever gets that high though, it'll probably mean the land is a great investment also. Especially because unlike Splinterlands and Decentraland where there are around 100k plots, PsyberX commercial plots are limited to a ridiculously low 50 plots.
Sure, there are 10,000 smaller plots but these commercial plots are 20x the size. That just doesn't compare.
If Psyberx ever really takes off and people want to build something impressive there, there are only 50 plots they can build it on and I own one of them.
What could that be worth? Is a million bucks crazy if the game gets 5-10 million players? There are a lot of hurdles between now and then but I'd say it's not even far fetched if the the team pulls off this game the way they say they can.
Would I sell? Probably not. More than likely, I'd rent it out and collect the cash each month because thats what I want out of crypto. I want assets that I can buy dirt cheap today that will pay me huge dividends in the future to hold them when everyone else realizes they want to be involved.
I want to take the bets with 20% chance of paying off but 5,000% upside if they do.
This means buying assets that are useful and scarce. A Gold Alpha Alric Stormbringer with only a few hundred in circulation? for a few hundred bucks? Yes Please.
A plot of land in a game where the developers understand my vision of a robust economy of interoperable games and worlds with only 50 --FIFTY!-- available ever? Yes Please.
Even if I have my doubts on whether or not the vision will be delivered, the bet is worth it to me because if they do, owning this plot will be life changing. And if they don't, well my LVL wouldn't have been worth much anyway.
