Splinterlands Art Contest Week 279! Mar Toren Seeker

In one week, I learned how to draw better, studying techniques to enhance my entries in the Splinterlands Fan Art Challenge. I also sought tips from skilled artists, asking what I should learn and if they had any secret techniques (Spoiler Alert: there are none, hahaha!).

For this week's contest, I decided to submit a drawing of Mar Toren Seeker.

Mar Torren Seeker is a Water Element with 2 range attack, and Snipe, and Dodge abilities at level 1. At level 5, it gains the Phase ability, making it harder to be hit even by magic attacks.

I like this card because it's not easily targeted by the opponent's snipers, and some opponents like to use snipers to quickly eliminate support units.

When summoned using Prophet Rosa as a Summoner, you can extend its range attack to 4. If the opponent has healer, Mar Toren Seeker can quickly take them out with its snipe ability.

So here's my process in drawing Mar Toren Seeker.

First, of course, the outline. I created an outline of how I wanted to draw it. In the Splinterlands Lore, Mar Torren Seeker has a half-body image, so I assumed it's a merman and added a fish tail.

Next, I worked on the base colors to visualize how I would arrange the shading in the artwork.

After creating the base colors, I duplicated them and edited the duplicates. Based on what I learned on YouTube, it's crucial to imagine where the shadows should be in the artwork. I used a Watercolor Brush to apply different shades, adjusting the dark and light shades based on the earlier base color.

Then, I created the background, drawing rock formations where I placed the character. I used a dry brush for the rock effect.

Behind the rocks, I added a gradient for the base of the background. I used a Clouds brush to make the water look foggy. For the bubbles, I improvised with a Bokeh brush since there wasn't a specific bubble brush.

I also added a foam-like texture to the sea floor for a better look.

I added a sparkle to the character to make it look shiny underwater.

For the finishing touch, I added a light from above and changed the layer blending to dodge.

So here is my finished artwork. I hope you liked it. To those interested in my posts, feel free to follow me and drop a comment in the comment section.
