[LOTRO] The Gloom of Nurn (Nazgûl)
The Gloom of Nurn, is one of the Nine Nazgûl, recipient of Nitîr (Terror's Sting), one of the nine Rings of Power that were forged for Men. Originally a Númenórean king, his name is lost in time, and he is now known by the most common of his many nicknames.

This is an world-boss encounter on the VIP server for the MMORPG "Lord Of The Rings Online". I am playing on the Mordor server by the way.
On the VIP servers the devs have implemented something called "The Veil Of The Nine" which gives players a chance to encounter one of the Nine fabled Nazgûls. It's sort of like a mini-boss fight.
It can also go horribly wrong. More info here: https://lotro-wiki.com/wiki/Veil_of_the_Nine

Players are not told when these Nazgûls will show up, and when one does spawn players are not told where the bastard is. You should see the world chat channel's like when a Nazgûl appears. Everyone stops. All discussions stop. All banter stops. Alls you can see are people FRANTICALLY using all their computer wizard powers to hunt this Nazgûl down.
When the location of the Nazgûl is found, co-ordinates are given to all players via the World-Chat channel, where players then form mini-raid groups to fuck this mfer up. Some players are pricks though, sending you to false locations or even withholding the Nazgûl's location on the map.

Ring Bearers are needed (these are veteran/experienced players who have obtained a "Ring of Power" from the game); these Bearers have massive hax powers against the Nazgûl, acting as a debuff to this very difficult world boss. When you encounter the world boss on location the music just changes, the entire environment changes (skies turn dark, music goes into high octane terror mode). It is very very well presented and this is one of the charms of LOTRO. The devs really did put a lot of effort into showcasing just how terrifying these bastard natty Nazgûls are...https://lotro-wiki.com/wiki/The_Nazgûl
It's advised to be at least level 45 before attempting this encounter. One because if too underleveled you aren't really of much help (you barely do any damage); also you won't get the "Mark of Doom" debuff, which grants the players "Morgul Coins" as a reward for taking em out.

Sometime's the Nazgûls may teleport people to far off distant locations during the encounter. It's randomized i think...and annoying...but when you get the right group of people, with the right levels, with the right gear and a Ring Bearer in your partay, it takes no more than 20mins to get together and beat the Nazgûl.

So you weren't powerful enough to contribute? Looked like you just ran around bot getting close and then got transported..?
Yeah i was around lvl 44, just shy of a level.
My gear was absolutely crap because i dislike crafting in any game, so i didn't bother with gear grinding. I didn't want to spend my gold i saved in game and ask an online player from one of them fancy crafting guilds near The Prancing Pony in Bree (major player hub, especially on the Roleplaying servers omg...one time i saw a Hobbit Pub crawl, all players, singing hobbit shit, talking like Frodo and all).
So i just ran around and slapped the crappy mobs...then i got teleported away.
You would enjoy this MMO very much, especially the VIP servers (about £9 subscription fee a month). The VIP servers have been upgraded from 32bit to 64bit. Also they expanded their 2 VIP servers (Angmar, based in America; Mordor, based in Europe)...so now i think there are like 5 VIP 64 bit servers in total now. They will be releasing more up until August this year.
The VIP 64 bit servers are different to your free to play servers. F2P servers are 32bit so the lag is intense...plus the game runs on an old engine and archiac code...so it's not optimized well on modern systems as well as modern servers. But hopefully with more 64bit VIP servers being rolled out, the eternal lag problem that LOTRO is known for will be smoothed out drastically x1000. It's already been smoothed out since the 2 VIP servers were up, and now it's more smoother.
You would enjoy the Dwarf Captain or Warden Class. I would go for the Captain class, which is based off Boromir. Warden class does a lot of combos, and because of the server latency problem, these combos are hard to pull off...so i don't bother. I may go back to playing a Warden...they are fun man. But i like Captains more; they can tank, they are great support healers, they have good dps, and in end game they are most welcome as a support healer/tank.
Look man i found a Chinese hobbit in the game...even sounds like a freshie...
You do sell it well!
Although my go-to would be a wizard. ..
LoreMaster, the Gandalf class is OP.

That sounds fun! And the community rallying to answer the call of defeating a Nazgul shows how important such an event is. Players can be mischievous bastards though.
The 64 bit servers should bring in a rush of new players now that they are becoming more widely accessible. Thank you for sharing your experience with the event!
Will you give the MMO a try?
Yes. The community and its commitment to the game has been interesting to catch up on and seeing players in the game interact has been fun. It's also a bit of a mindset shift when thinking about MMOs when playing LOTRO because many claim the goal isn't to 'get to the end as fast as possible' but instead an experience to enjoy and grow with as the player progresses.
It feels like a resurgence of this type of mindset with players wanting longevity in a game instead of the next hit of 'thrill' that other MMOs try to incorporate.
