That is a curious predicament. Money is often at the heart of an insecurity issue so I would approach it as if she had been a victim of a traumatizing robbery before? Minimizing the amount thus making her a less tempting target?
What I discovered with my Mother was she was scammed with fake credit card bills and since then she had a phobia of missing any overdue bills that demanded payment of penalties and fess.

Ooh thank you, for this thoughtful engagement with me. Since then I'm traumatized dealing with her in any form.
I'm even scared of answering her phone calls. It's quite surprising to me, because over the years, I have held her in higher esteem, never knew she could under rate herself this low.
