Dome Locked - Part 3 (Novella)

(Edited)

Here is an ongoing story I have been writing for the last month or so. Currently, there are four chapters written, and this one here is the start of the fifth.

It started before November and was enjoying the story and characters, so decided to try and complete it as part of NaNoWriMo, but, here we are in December and I'm still working on it.

Currently, I have a feeling the Eighth chapter will be the final one, however, it could go on a bit longer than that, based on how the story concludes.

Following the Doshan and the greasy-haired Human filled Mari with a certain amount of ease. She couldn't help but notice how everyone in their path moved out of their way upon their approach.
The shined looks of fear, made it clear that they were well known by most of the people of Sin. Mari didn't know them personally, but through the years of living in The Western Wastes, she had heard stories of the High Flyers. They were renowned for causing trouble for Talirda's law enforcement, the TPD, or Peacekeepers as they were typically nicknamed.
There were many occurrences of fire-fights above the city and high-speed chases. Property damage was a weapon they used to great effect. The manufacturing of drugs and the transport and sale of them was their biggest profit-building opportunity, as well as that, they ran multiple shops throughout the city; places they could repair, and dismantle speeders and transport ships alike.
They were hated due to their sheer numbers, and the fact that they didn't seem to have much regard for their own lives, let alone anyone else they encountered on their drug-fueled rampages.
She knew little else about them, other than the common knowledge, and occasional clips that would surface on holo-vids.
Given half a chance, Mari would be tempted to join up with them.

From a small crowd a Trisken fell out from the small mass of people, and made a big deal of them. "Look who it is! High Flyers, all the way down here. What brings you lot out of The Dead Zone?" The Trisken asked as he stumbled toward them.
"Business." The greasy-haired Human responded as he moved to shove past the Trisken.
"Business. A nasty business too. Did you slab anyone on your way here tonight?" The Trisken hissed, and before he could finish he was being shushed by some of his friends.
"Sorry about him, he's drunk." One of the Trisken's friends said.
"What did you say?" The greasy-haired Human said as he grabbed the Trisken by the throat. Holding him for a brief moment, he let go of him and shoved him back into the crowd - who, like a wave receded and fell back into place. "Watch your friend." He said, before wrapping an arm around the Doshan to continue walking.
"You scum killed my brother!" The Trisken shouted, and it was only as he finished that Mari noticed the glint of steel.
There was no time for her to react, as all she could do was watch the Trisken lunge forward. Shots fired and echoed through the corridor. People screamed, and others dived out away, trampling each other as they did. Mari found herself spun around, and knocked away from the people she was following, and by the time she realised where she was, she was staring at an almost empty walkway, with the Trisken laying lifeless on the ground, as the Doshan held a smoking pistol at the end of an outstretched arm.

The greasy-haired one checked over himself with a few pats, and then looked down at the Trisken. There was a moment of silence until he erupted into a fit of hysterics. "What an idiot!" He shouted, before turning to the Doshan and ushering her away. "Come on, before the security arrives."
Killing was frowned upon here, even in self-defense. It wouldn't be long before they were all outside the building and making their way, away from this place. Mari shoved through a few people to keep up with them because the last place she wanted to be during a raid was here.

They almost disappeared into the crowd ahead, but Mari managed to maintain a view of them. Occasionally though, they would disappear behind yet another person, only to reemerge a few steps down the hall. Every time she caught sight, she would notice the Doshans eye in the crowd as she made an effort to look back for her.
