T-TEC Inbound - Part 2 (Novella)

avatar
(Edited)

Well, here we are, the final chapter of this Novella I've been writing for about 2 and a half months. I could have gotten it done a lot quicker had I written one part a day, but sometimes it's good to give a little breathing room between sections.

I'm going to complete this, then bring all of the individual parts into Google Docs, and see how it all lines up. There may be a few bridges that need gaps, but hopefully not many.

After my first edit pass of this, I'll find an editor online who I can hire to give it a final pass and then I can publish it. If anyone's interested or knows anyone who's interested in editing it, let me know rates and stuff.

Vague recollections of floating through the air filled his memory. Watching the floor pass beneath him, as pairs of boots hit the ground beside him. Drifting in and out of the waking world, he finally fell completely unconscious, only to wake to a commotion in the room; it was a female voice and sounded oddly like Mari. When he opened his eyes, he wasn't completely awake, and what he saw, he couldn't make sense of fully, and it all went dark once more.

"People are leaving the club in droves. A group of High Flyers left, and mentioned something about a raid." One of the guards said.
"A raid? Who would dream of raiding Sin? With our security." The Alid scoffed and then leaned back in his chair. He then shifted in his seat for a moment and then leaned over the console on his desk, pressing a button after a moment of silence. "All hands, get to your positions." He commanded coldly.
"You'll pay for this! You'll all pay for this! I'll..." Mari started shouting, as she squirmed in her restraints.
"Shut her up!" The Alid shouted as he was taken from his thoughts. "Hit her with another dose of Tranquility."
One of the guards unholstered a sidearm and adjusted the pistol.

"You think that'll shut me up!?" She screamed and spat in the direction of the guard.
A light dusting of saliva coated his boots as he took position in front of her, with his right arm extended, and right leg planted in front of him. She started to laugh maniacally as he took his shot. A small dart whizzed through the air and planted itself in her throat. Mari let out a slight yelp but continued her frenzy of laughing. With her arms behind her back, she couldn't remove it. So, just thrashed violently in place, but after a moment, her movements slowed, and the laughing stopped. Soon, she was dazed wholly and finally fell face down on the ground. She continued to squirm lightly, as she spoke incoherently. Then she was still and silent.
"That'll shut her up for a while." The Alid said.

"Mr. Crovin, we should evacuate. Just in case there is an imminent raid." A thin voice spoke from behind Andron, and he could hear it come closer.
Taking a glance over his left shoulder, he couldn't see anything. But, there was a shimmering of light. It was hypnotic and shuddered quickly, before dropping completely. Through the armour, it was hard to see a face. Judging by the thin build, Andron assumed it was a Doshan male.
"Silence, Shoni. I'll be going nowhere." Crovin said as he stared at his desk. "I will not be driven from my Club by baseless threats, and the rumours of a bunch of drug-addled gutter-crawlers from The Dead Zone."
"At the very least, you should suit up. I think it would inspire confidence in the men." Shoni replied.
Crovin remained silent for a while, before nodding in agreement. "Okay, I'll suit up. But, not because I'm afraid."
       "Readiness does not insinuate fear."

The Alid stood up and walked toward the large metallic suit of armour that stood proudly in the corner. It was more like a vehicle, than armour. As he reached it, a call was received. He answered it and didn't immediately speak. "Arien."
"Sir, I'm sorry. I've been injured, and am currently at The Oridium Mines. I have taken refuge with the leader, and he has assured me protection." A woman's voice came through the communicator.
"The package. What about the package." Crovin asked in a frustrated tone.
"It's en route. The Trisken was given it and was sent on his way. He was injured apparently, but capable of flying."
Crovin ended the transmission within a few moments of her finished, and continued to get into his suit.

"You're Shoni. The one who had some deal going with M'Trada." Andron replied. He knew the name, but by all accounts, he'd disappeared while on his way to the detention centre.
"You're awake," Crovin said. A guard readied his sidearm, but the Alid gestured to him, which made him halt. Crovin's eyes fell back on Andron, as a smile crawled across his leathery face. It was wide, but his eyes were cold. "Your friend better get back here soon," he finally said.

Crovin was well known to the TPD, and they'd built up an extensive file on him since he came to power. He knew that the arrival of T-TEC would offer them the opportunity to take him alive if he cooperated. Andron assumed that the Alid was a coward, so figured that would be possible.
