T-TEC Inbound - Part 5 (Novella)

avatar
(Edited)

Well, here we are, the final chapter of this Novella I've been writing for about 2 and a half months. I could have gotten it done a lot quicker had I written one part a day, but sometimes it's good to give a little breathing room between sections.

I'm going to complete this, then bring all of the individual parts into Google Docs, and see how it all lines up. There may be a few bridges that need gaps, but hopefully not many.

After my first edit pass of this, I'll find an editor online who I can hire to give it a final pass and then I can publish it. If anyone's interested or knows anyone who's interested in editing it, let me know rates and stuff.

The noise from above became quiet once more. Screaming echoed throughout the venue. Those sounds of panic were only deadened by the sounds of heavy gunfire. Sin had become a warzone. What was once music, and laughter was no terror.
      Andron knew that
right now, T-TEC squads were sweeping the complex, killing indiscriminately. The guilt of calling them in was only a passing thought. There was little to no choice in the matter; without them, he, Mari, and M'Trada would have been killed.
The small band of troops had the room secured, but their enthusiasm for a firefight was waning. Andron was the only one who knew exactly who was coming, and if they knew, they'd most likely drop their weapons and flee. The thought of telling them - so they might end this - was on his mind. He knew that he had better keep his mouth shut though. Painting a target on his back wouldn't be a good choice, especially judging by their fear. Fear makes people stupid, and stupid people who are heavily armed are the worst kind.

"Comms are down." Crovin muttered. Uncertainty tricked through his distorted voice changer. "How are we to mount a defense with no communications."
"Sir, I think we should retreat." Shoni's bodiless voice filled the air. The shimmer specter moved through the room slowly.
"If we run, Sin falls to these raiders." Crovin replied. "I have too much tied up in this place, and refuse to leave it in the hands of these people."
"I hate to say it, but if we stay, everything may still fall to them. At least if we make it out alive, we can rebuild." Shoni reasoned, and by the look of it, it worked.

Crovin was silent, and still. It made the most sense to just run, and go underground. Andron would have liked to make them stay, so they could be captured, but at this rate, he figured it was best if they just left. There'd be another day in the future.

The Alid stepped to his desk, and pressed a button on his console.
A blank well came to life. With a hiss, it opened and gave them a clear way out of the room.
"We're moving. Shoni, scout ahead, and the rest of you, follow me." The shimmer heeded the command and headed through the opening, and slowly the others shuffled through.
None of them even looked at Andron, or Mari.
"What about them?" One of the guards asked, which caused Androns blood to run cold.
Crovin stared at them for a long moment. "Leave them." He replied. "Let's hope that your new owners are as kind as me.
