Two Months of Parenthood

Greetings, so I'm a little bit overdue for another post about the baby, he was two months old on the 9th of June, and I was intending to do a post that day, but couldn't get around to it, so here we are.

I want to stick to doing one post a month and share some pictures and stories about each one, as a way of keeping a digital journal, and if I can keep this up then we'll have plenty of stuff to embarrass him about on his 18th.

Here's the three of us on my partner's 30th birthday and it was taken 3 days before his monthiversary. I don't know if that's what it is called, but I think it has a better ring than monthaday.

Here he is on the day itself, lying on his little mat. My partner picked this up on Amazon and it's really nice; it's great that we can take these photos and potentially put them into a montage of sorts, where we can see him grow through the months.

Here's Kaleb pulling one of the best evil-doer faces I've ever seen, Dr. Evil couldn't match this. I think in this photo he was 11 days old.

Here's the bunton after having a bath and getting his baby moisturizer. In his first month, he absolutely hated bath time and would go nuts during it, but now he has actually gotten used to it and seems to really like it.

Here he is giving us smiles which he often does now, it was around the 6-week mark before he gave his first smiles.. which we knew weren't due to wind, and now when talking to him he has tons of smiles. He likes it when we boop his nose or give his cheeks tickles. We picked up this little space t-shirt in penneys. One thing we have noticed recently is that the shops have a very small selection of boy's clothing on average, but occasionally we find a gem.

He is pretty photogenic, he may not understand what a camera is, but he sure knows that when it's out he should be smiling. In this, he's laying on his teddy bear mat, where he does his tummy time. My aunty picked up those cute socks for him, and they're kind of rubberised at the bottom.

Story Time

So, we decided to head down to a shop in my town called Babycare, and we were picking up a little Sunbrella - my partner just said it's called a parasol, but I prefer Sunbrella - attachment for the pram, due to the hot weather.

It was 25 Euros, not too bad, and while there we had a gander at what else was about, when she picked up a little harness thing and asked me if we'll buy it. So we could have one for my place, as well as the one we have back in hers - we live in separate towns, so travel back and forth regularly, and have doubled up on a few things to make the trips easier.

I agreed and she brought it to the counter while I continued to have a look around, and as it was rang up I heard a few strange numbers that didn't make sense to me, 2. 1. 8.

Obviously, I was a bit confused but just assumed my mind was playing tricks on me from lack of sleep. We got outside and she had a shocked look on her face and after asking if I'd heard it right, she told me I did. Returning the harness would be awkward, but we decided to stop in and get some lunch to think about it.

Afterward, we concluded that, yes, we should return the thing, since we already have one, and she decided to go in while I waited with the baby - she's a bit better at confrontation than I am.

While outside, Kaleb decided to start screaming, and I was walking him around the carpark to calm him down (If he's in his carriage he goes nuts if he isn't moving) So, after a while of walking he's calm, but then starts again, and I realise he must be hungry, or wet, or both.

So, in a slight panic, I rushed back into the place we had just eaten and prepped his bottle as I wondered how I was going to get the pram through the narrow door to the toilets and wondered if they even had a changing station. He was still screaming, people were staring (Most likely thinking, "Oh, someone is out of their element." I wasn't, it was just a bit of bad timing and the first time I'd been alone in a situation like this with him.)

With the bottle, he was happy and calmed down, and then I felt my phone buzz, since I couldn't get it I had to hope she knew we went back inside the place. Luckily she did and showed up a few minutes later because she heard the crying. He's very loud.

Anyway, she got the money back, no questions asked, so couldn't even use the excuse we fabricated. We fed and changed him, got another coffee, and hung out for a while, and this photo was taken after everything had settled back down.

In shops, everything should be visibly priced, especially if it's expensive.

Here he is at two weeks old, chilling out in his elephant pajamas. It's sad, but in the last couple of weeks we have put away all of his newborn clothes and already he is nearly out of his 0-3, which is a sad sight to see.

Here he is doing his famous super sad face; while we have seen him pull much sadder faces than this, the one here is one of the only ones we've managed to capture. He has a couple of those little sun hats now, which are really cute. Kaleb gets sad when we put him in the carriage because he would rather be held, but as soon as we start walking he settles down and usually goes to sleep - or, what we think is sleep, then we stop to talk to someone and he wakes up getting angry so we have to carry on our stroll.

This is him just a few days ago; it is crazy how much his face has changed in these last two months.

This is one of the first smiles we managed to capture a picture of, and he seems to have gotten used to smiling now.

Here he is at two months, only 3 days ago, and while standing above him taking the pictures we were talking to him and after a few minutes we finally managed to get a smile out of him. Pretty soon, we'll be able to celebrate these days with a little treat of some kind.

Run Down of How Things Are going
Everything has been fine, me and my partner have really settled in now, and have gotten so much more used to him and our new life.

For the first 6-7 weeks we struggled with the lack of sleep, waking up multiple times a night for feeds and stuff, but, last week he slept from 10:30PM to 7:30AM without waking, and we felt so fresh and put it down to a fluke, then he did the same the next night, and since then he has only had one restless night out of eight, and we feel so much more alert now because of it.

Jabs
He had his 2-month jabs the other day, and it was terrible. They gave him two injections at the same time, one in each leg, and the needles looked grown-up sized which doesn't seem fair on a baby, surely there is a better way to administer them. He let out a terrible scream when it happened, and it was hard to hear.

After some Calpol straight away, he dosed off and didn't let out any cries after, which was kind of surprising, because if I had to get them I know I would have been crying.

We were afraid that it could affect his sleeping through the night and take away our full night's sleep, but surprisingly enough, it didn't and he carried on sleeping through.

Physio
When he was born, we noticed that he couldn't move his head to the left, and after talking to the nurse about it he was admitted to physio, due to a marble-sized knot in his neck muscle.

We were taught a bunch of exercises and stretches to perform with him daily, and now, about 5 weeks into his routine, he can now turn his head, and the knot is almost completely gone.

We're still going to keep doing them even after we know it's completely gone, just to make sure.

Upon meeting her the second time the physiotherapist is happy with him and we're meeting her again at the end of the month for another follow-up, just to see.
