Indonesia is one of the biggest tobacco producers. In 2021, the production of tobacco was 201,011 tons. There are around five centres of tobacco farming. They are Temanggung, Jember, Lombok, Deli and Madura.

  1. H.M. Sampoerna was established in 1913.
    In 2005, Philip Moris bought some Sampoerna shares. In 2017, H.M. Sampoerna earned a net profit of around 12,6 trillion IDR. The company employs more than 28,000 workers.

  2. PT Gudang GaramIt is located in Kediri, East Java. It has more than 35,000 employees. It earned around 7.8 trillion IDR in 2017.

  3. PT DjarumPT Djarum has the best product named Djarum Super. It has more than 75 thousand workers. In 2017, the companies produced 58.8 billion cigarettes.

Indonesian society cannot be separated from tobacco. When the government increases excise duty to reduce cigarette consumption, the reality is that illegal cigarettes emerge. The international FCTC rules on tobacco were rejected by President Jokowi to protect the national tobacco industry.
